I must be getting old, I know this generation has lasted a while but I find myself already looking back on it with nostalgia. As we get closer and closer to the next generation I'm beginning to wonder if these new consoles will actually halt this never ending spiral into homogenised mediocrity we seem to be stuck in.

This generation started off so well, after reviewing Gears of War Judgment; I thought I'd check out the original again since Judgment came with a download code. Aside...

5. Halo 4

I'll admit I was sceptical that 343 Industries were going to be able to pull this off. To their credit though they kept the torch convincingly lit against all the odds. Visually and sonically it is one of the most jaw dropping games I have played in 2012.

343 have managed keep the core of what makes Halo feel so familiar to its fans while updating and making some pretty ballsy changes to both the single and multiplayer portions. Also a gold star for the mini...

10. NBA Jam: OFE

PC gaming is having somewhat of a renaissance right now, the extended console life cycle is highlighting more than usual the benefits available to those who switch.

Gone are the days of having to endlessly upgrade hardware and drivers then running FRAPS to measure your all important frame rate. Steam makes things easier handling updates and creating a unifying ecosystem, games are cheaper, they look better and with Valves Big Picture they are now even easier to enjoy in the lounge...

When does a game stop being a game?

Posted 23-05-2012 at 9:19 AM by Guns_LotsOfGuns (Extra Ammunition)

I like to think I am a "proper gamer" who plays “real games”, Super Meat Boy? Completed it. Mile High Club on veteran? Beat it. Guitar Hero III on expert? Yawn.

I like beating stuff, completing things, rising up to the challenge and basking in that warm fuzzy feeling as you watch the credits scroll. So obviously with the advent of Wii; motion control and the widespread dumbing down for the benefit of the masses i have been looking down my nose at more and more titles which...
