Denon DVD2900 as a Universal Digital Transport.

I am just coming to the end of a project I have been working on for the last few weeks. I am not sure if it truly qualifies as DIY if I got someone else to do half the work but it was pivotal to the success of the project anyway so here goes.
I have a Benchmark DAC. I love what it does and to be honest it made my CD's sound better (to me) than my DVD-A's and SACD's. While not being able to afford the very best universal players I always wondered what my high definition disks might sound like...

Getting the best from stand mount speakers.

I recently embarked on an exercise in getting the best from my stand mounted speakers. They are both mini monitors, similar volumes, drive units from the same manufacture and premium models from the range. However their performance and presentation are very different.

Model 1: Vienna Acoustic Haydn. RRP £700
These are visually gorgeous speakers, very well made with a recessed treble that holds its composure with spitty sources, a rich midrange and lots of bass. Their presentation...
