Browse over WAP not WiFi on 8520

Ok so just got a bb8520 from these forums for my missus and I have unlocked it, from o2 to orange, now when i go to the browser I only have the option of the hotspot browser and cannot surf unless connected to wifi,

She is on an orange plan with 500mb of data and I have entered the APN settings etc, yet cannot connect over WAP.

Any ideas?

You will need to phone Orange and ask them to your phone to the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).

You do not need to get Orange to activate BIS to access the internet - only if you want to use apps which need this, ie the BB Messenger Service, Google Maps etc, or using the email service.

Download a third party browser such as Bolt (well recommended) or Opera Mini (stick with v. 4)

Your Orange APN settings should be:

APN: orangeinternet
User Name: user
Password: pass

If you want to use the BB app store you will need to have BIS - however there are many private companies that you can use to download apps - my recommendation is Mobihand, but google for others.

Had to dash out, but also meant to mention, if you do want to use the BB browser when connected to a wi fi signal.......

Go into the Browser Options, then Browser Configuration and untick Support Javascript. This will make a tremendous difference to the time it takes to render pages.

Make sure Prompt to enable Javascript is ticked. If a site, or app, requires Javascript it will then ask you for permission on a one time basis.

You can also play around with the settings for font size etc in General Properties, and you may find you prefer Column View to Page View (means more scrolling down, or use space bar to scroll a screen at a time, but is quicker if just looking for info)
