BB Bold with no BB Service Contract

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe a daft question - and I have had a look about the forum, but can't see an answer ...

My employer provides me with a Nokia phone on Vodaphone. It is set up to allow text and voice calls only - no data of any sort ...

If I buy a Bold 5230(?) from Asda, or wherever, would it be possible to put my "work SIM" into it? I assume that voice and texts would be fine but can I use the iPhone to access the internet and importantly my (personal) POP3 email address when on a wifi network (have one at home and work) ...

I know it's not using the phone to its full potential but I want to be able to access my personal email whilst at work or away (using hotel wifi).

I had thought about an iPod Touch which would be cheaper and be good for the e:mail/internet - but am thinking that this would save me carrying 2 devices about all the time?????

Any ideas? I've had conflicting answers from 2 Car Phone Warehouse Stores.

Ta
JB

You would be able to use it for calls and texts and that's it. So work email on it is out of the question.

If you want email, you need a BB service on your account.

Yup. You need BIS added to your account I'm afraid, even if it's just for accessing via WiFi.

Orange do BIS contracts for as little as £15. Got one with an 8520 (free) on a 2 year contract. Seemed like a bargain, I still think it is... 400 mins, unlimited text, unlimited internet / bb services, and a free phone, albeit the 8520, for £15/month

Most ISPs allow you to access your POP3 emails via the Web. Use the Wi Fi connection to go to the home page of your ISP and look for Mail.

You won't be able to download them to your phone (they will still be downloaded to your home pc later) but you will be able to read them and reply to them from the web interface.
