Blackberry Bold, ringtones not very loud, normal?

Been bugging me ever since I inherited this phone off the other half(missus had it as a replacement but found it too masculine). I'm sure it used to be louder when she had it Annoying for me as I work in a noisy workshop so no chance of hearing my mobile ring.

Anyway, is it usual that none of the ringtones(including my own MP3s) are not very loud? Wondering if mine could have some sort of fault or bug in the firmware.

Don't really understand too much with this phone but some info incase it helps:

v4.6.0.221 (platform 4.0.0.186)
cryptographic kernal v3.8.5.50a
branding version: 1.0.142.58

Could there be a firmware update that increases the phones volume or am I just stuck with it as is, oh and yes I have checked in profiles that volume is set to the loudest.

Just put mine to 10 and its very loud, the 9000s speaker is by far the best on any phone I've had as well.

OS5 official still hasn't been leaked yet so its a case of waiting (shouldn't be too long) or you can try 5.0.0.348 which has been out a while, I'm using it and its very good and well worth the update if you're not prepared to wait to see if this cures you're problem otherwise it must be faulty!

Have you also tried a hard reset by removing the battery? Can sometimes cure a lot of problems on BlackBerrys in general.

Thanks for the tips but after searching the web I've discovered that it's actually a hardware fault rather than software. Loads of people here with the same issue(good to discover it isn't just me going crazy) Blackberry Bold and Loudspeaker sound level proble... - BlackBerry Support Community Forums

Sure enough if I apply presure either side of the flash the volume instantly increases dramatically, very loud and clear, sounds fantastic infact(just as I remembered it when my wife had the phone).

Seems you can fix the problem by wedging a thin piece of plastic(such as a strip of credit card type plastic) just below the flash, but from what I've read this is a temp fix and will the problem will raise it's ugly head again after a few weeks

Pretty disappointed with this news as I really like the phone but this really is a killer of a problem, and it sounds as though even if I get a replacement the issue is likely to return(a few people on that forum had replacements that later developed the same problem).

That sucks as the 900 is an amazing device as well.

You could dismantle it, it is extremely easy, all you need is a T5 or T9 screwdriver iirc. I have taken mine apart a few times, it might have come loose or something, its worth a try if you're brave enough, plenty of video guides on youtube and crackberry.
