Wife wants a BB 8520...Now I may have the opportunity to pick one up for her...but my questions are these;

Assuming the bb is unlocked (Voda),

She is on o2 payg - can her sim drop into the BB and work straight away?

If she can't would she have to buy a new o2 sim?

Or would she have to use a new provider in order to get full service out of the BB.

So, assuming I can get summat sorted, what else would need to be done with the device?

By full service im assuming you mean blackberry email ?

AFAIK none of the networks offer a bolt on for BIS, Orange & T-Mobile both sell pre-registered sims.

Orange will add BIS to an existing PAYG sim, £5/mth.
