Question newbee Blackberry user quick question...

Hi all,

I'm about to get a new blackberry 9700 to replace my iphone, i got a quick question if someone could help.

I use the web based Gmail as my main email address. Along with the usual inbox, sent, deleted folders etc that you usually have i also like to create new folders such as Holiday, Work, Posted, Ordered and things like thats that i store the emails in to keep them orgainised and out of my inbox.

On the iphone you can see all these subfolders automaticaly and therefore i can view any email at anytime.

When using a blackberry, can you also have access to the sub folders you create so i can still organise this way or would i have t wait until I log on to a PC and then start moving them around??

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

LOL

I have a Blackberry Storm2 and use Gmail aswell. However, answer to your question, there doesn't appear to be any sub folders within the Gmail account, but bare in mind, I've registered my Gmail using bb's server.

Sorry but I can't give you a definite answer as I'm abit of a noob with blackberries

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

Thanks wild goose...........I do hope you can or esle this is one massive advantage the Iphone has in my opinion!

An example of how it looked on my Iphone is below:

Inbox
Sent
draft
Bin
Travel*
Work*
Orders*
Posted*
Keep*

* = i added these folders on my PC by logging into Gmail but then as soon as my iphone sync my mail, they would appear in my list.

The major advantage was i was able to store emails in the individual folders and then look at them whenever you need...

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

I agree with you Twan1 that the iPhone has one advantage over the BB when it comes to Mail folders.

I suspect that you need Microsoft Exchange to benefit Mail Folders like Gmail.
This is something that Blackberries doesn't have. I could be wrong though.

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

Wildgoose,

I would be curious if you log in to your gmail (actually on the net, not via outlook etc) on your PC and create a new folder online, to see if it appears?

If you get a spare minute?

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

really appreciate you looking into to it so thought id reply how

1) log in at google.com com
2) click on mail
3)on the left hand side there is a tab under your inbox outbox etc called '4 more'
4) click on that and then in the drop down you should see 'create new label'
5) click on that, call it a name and it then shoudl appear above below your inbox etc...

Now what i'm hoping is that when you look at the folders on your blackberry you can then see your new folder in the drop down where you have the inbox, sent, bin, draft etc?

Hope this helps!!

Re: newbee Blackberry user quick question...

Followed your instructions and so far, my newly created folder failed to materialized on my Blackberry.

Will have another crack with it tomorrow as I'm due to leave for work shortly.

Sorry I can't be of any help at the moment
