One example, I recently went into Carphone Warehouse where they were offering a free 8520, 600mins, 500txts free internet and free email for £20 per month. Despite asking numerous times if there was any catches/hidden costs when it came to the crunch, sure enough, there was the mandetory £5.00 blackberry email cost to factor in taking this up to £25. A second example is Vodafone's website, I am completely lost with, unlimited mobile internet, blackberry internet solution, blackberry email etc etc.
Basically I want free emails and free internet found on the iphone without going for an iphone. Can someone a)recommend a decent provider that don't hide various prices from potential customers and b) explain what I need to ask for to get the two criteria I mentioned above. i.e what blackberry/mobile provider jargon means free internet (ala Iphone) and free email. |
Hi mate,
I purchased this exact deal for both myself and the missus, from Carphone Warehouse, and on Orange.
600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited (512Mb) internet.
The deal, as far as I understand it, is that the handset is normally £25, and the Blackberry internet stuff is an additional £5. That of course makes a £30 monthly bill. Carphone Warehouse then deduct £10 from the monthly bill. There is no dodgy write back nonsense, unlike many of the offers that I have seen on the back pages of tabloids (I asked that specific question)
How they (Carphone warehouse) make money I can only presume, but it strikes me that acting as a mobile phone broker must be very lucrative.
As a result, the end bill is £20 per month. Or at least that is what I have been told, and in front of a witness.
I also queried the "512Mb, effectively unlimited data allowance". The chaps at Carphone warehouse insisted that this was truly 'unlimited', in that they have never known anybody to go over this limit. Just this night I called Orange to complain that, despite the fact that it is easy to check my text and phone call usage, there is no mechanism of which I am aware where I can check my internet usage.
The answer was that there is nothing to worry about- there will be no charge. Apparently the tech compresses the data and then sends it to the phone. And even, in the unlikely event that I go over this limit, there will be no charge.
Should that not be the case then there must be thousands similarly affected. In which case a class action against Orange would probably be quite simple to arrange.
As a result, I expect my first bill to be £40 (two phones at £20 per month).
If it isn’t, then I will report back.
As for the phone (Blackberry 8520), I think that it is superb, and I highly recommend it. As a communication device it is outstanding. My previous “best phone I ever had” was the P900, and that was a legendary phone. This is a better phone.
Kind regards,
Damo
