Re: Wi Fi or GPRS/EDGE

It could be down to your Network suppliers preference. For example my BB on Orange connects to Wi-Fi whenever it finds one, my wife's BB on O2 never connects to Wi-Fi because that is how O2 prefer it.
Another reason could be down to how you have your Wi-Fi preferences set up. Go to Manage Connections - Mobile Network Options - and change Connection Preference to Wi-Fi Preferred. If you do not have this option (Connection Preferences) then your provider only wants you to use EDGE

Re: Wi Fi or GPRS/EDGE

I'm on O2.

The Wi-Fi option will have the green tick next to the connection only if it's actually connected however it should say 'On' next to it if it's activated.

If you enter the Wi-Fi options screen you should see the following...

...make sure that your selection mode is 'Automatic'.

Re: Wi Fi or GPRS/EDGE

I have checked and it is the active connection but does not seem to be going online through it.

Re: Wi Fi or GPRS/EDGE

I had the same problem when trying to connect to wifi at work i.e. it said connected to wifi but didn't have the tick next to it. Turned out I had to login from the "Wifi Hotpot Login" in "set up Wifi connection" menu. If you're connecting to a public wifi spot perhaps that's why?
