Very bad experience with pearl 8120 can i cancel phone contract?

Hi I have had a Blackberry Pearl 8120 since mid July. This lasted until about mid August and developed a fault which Orange replaced and now the replacement has developed a fault which is again going to be replaced. I like the features of the Pearl but to be honest I have lost all confidence in the phone lasting more than two months before it develops another problem. I am on a 24month contract but Orange only give a 12 month warranty and then it roles over to Blackberry which if a fault develops getting them to fix it might take some time. Is there any way I can get out of my contract or get a different phone that might actually work properly for more than 6 weeks at a time! Both falts have been differnet the first one the phone just had a mind of its own jumping through menu's stuff like that and this time the enter button on the rollerball does not work. Has anyone else experienced poor reliability with them if so what did you do?

right if you want to stay with orange but are not happy with the phone this is what you need to do.....
you need to report the same fault 3 times this will take 3 to 4 weeks to do but YOU will get offered a replacment handset not the same as you have ,they will give you a choice of handsets i recomend the curve 8900....you need to speak to custemer relations not custemer services......i have done this twise this year so i no it works......you wont be able to end contract enless you are within the first mounth or pay a settelment figure....hope this makes sence.......forgot to say the report on the faults dosnot have to be true just make up a fault but make sure when you report it again its the same fault

Re: Very bad experience with pearl 8120 can i cancel phone contract?

@shotgun, it is frustrating I know I had a similar problem with my 8310 and tmobile. At the end of the day, I moved to a Bold on Vodafone.

As S.DJ stated you are entitled to cancel the contract with Orange within the first 14 or 28 days, after that in order to cancel the contract they will charge you a settlement fee. The fee works by charging you the monthly contract charges for the remaining length of contract, e.g £30 x 22 months = £660.

Also be careful with the warranty length too, Orange will happily replace the phone 100's of times throughout their 12 month liability. After that don't bother speaking to RIM, they charge £49.00 just to speak to a member of the Technical Team.

Again as S.DJ stated, Ive found that if you report the exact same problem 3 - 4 times, the network will look into replacing the phone with a different model.

At present I'm on my 11th Bold, 9 months into my contract. I've switched device to my old trusty 8700g for the time being as I need a reliable device.

Good Luck, PM me if you need any further assistance.
