Not owned either but was very close to buying the Bold, I think now though I would buy the Curve. Aside from no 3G I think it has better features and is a better size too, also the battery life is meant to be better.
If you can wait there is meant to be a Curve with 3G coming out later in the year.

Re: Orange maps on blackberry

I was going to wait for tomtom on the iphone but my P990 is dying faster than tomtom are working on the iphone app. I really dont want a windows phone which is the only other handset tomtom support.

Anyone know if orange maps is memory or server based? I am 99% sure Garmin is server based which i am not keen on especially as it costs £80

Server based I believe, it downloads the mapping.

Re: Orange maps on blackberry

I have this on my work mobile. It's OK, not as good as TomTom, but it does work, the routing is fine, presentation is acceptable, but not pretty and the voice messages clear enough (it reads out street names, "turn left on to Suchandsuch Road", not just "take next left").

Costs £5 a month, and server based but the data it uses is included. Don't think I'd have it if I was paying the bill though, at least not without checking out all the alternatives, including a stand-alone unit.

Not sure how this compares to the Garmin one, which is also server based, but seems to be more like a one-off payment.

Seems that there isn't a memory-based GPS program for Blackberrys, at least I never found one.

Re: Orange maps on blackberry

I travel abroad a lot and need up to date european maps, especially eastern europe where new roads are being built like crazy. So this system suits me and is cheaper than renting a GPS unit witha hire car, but more portable than carrying my own GPS box around.

If you only need occasional use, Uk only, or are paying the bills yourself, get a tomtom for 100 quid and save your mobile for phone calls.

If a decent memory-card based system was released for BB then personally I would snap that up.

Re: Orange maps on blackberry

I have got Orange maps on a 8900 Curve but only used it for fun so far as car has built in Sat Nav.
I am quite impressed with its output, and it is fast (Server based). Tried to use it in Walking mode last week in London but could not get a position fix, but that is down to tall buildings and the BB GPS not Orange Maps.
If you are using it on a BB chances are you will be on an Animal Plan. If this is £30 pm for 24 months or £35 pm for 18 months the maps are included free, saving the £5 normally charged.
Getting a BB over an iphone is always going to be a good idea
