Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

Hi,

I have a Bold on Orange PAYG and everytime i set it to 3G it finds the network but seconds later diverts to sos calls only and says searching for network.

Seems to only work with 2G never ever switches to 3G.Went into my local Orange shop and the guy said it depends on where you live, but i live in a 3G area so he's talking out of his a**e.

The sim card is only a month old so i pressume it a 3G sim card is there a way to check ?

Any one else had this problem..any ideas..or am i stuck with just 2G.

thanks in advance

There were widespread problems with the Bold when it was released, Orange pulled sales of it for a while.
Have you updated the OS?

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

Orange 3G coverage is rubbish. I almost never see a 3g connection in the UK, but get perfect 3G whenever I travel abroad.

I don't get a 3G signal at home, or at work. In fact I barely get a signal at all at work, which at least means my days in the office are quiet!

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

I was just about to start my own thread until I found this..

Basically my friend and i are both on orange, same phone - BB Bold.. he came around to my house last night and we put our phones next to each other. He gets FULL 3G signal where as I only get GPRS, never do I get 3G - i know im in a 3G area as I had it on my last phone which was a SE.

I called and they were absolutely useless, said it depends where you are in the house etc etc.. after numerous times me explaining that my friend can get full 3G signal when we're in the same room!!

They also put the wrong data plan on when I took out the contract, so i've only had BB services for about 2 days. I've had my contract nearly 2 weeks now

So is this more than likely down to the simcard? im still using my simcard from my old phone...

Bingo!

You see this a lot with iPhone users who have had the same SIM for years and can't get 3G. It's almost always the SIM, as 3G SIM's weren't the norm up until a few years ago.

Give Orange a call and explain the situation and request a new SIM and I'd be willing to bet the problem goes away instantly

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

Ive read on several forums that Orange are notorious for not supplying 3G sims due to the phone registered against the contract account, i.e a phone thats not 3g enabaled.
Some customers even being refused point blank they cant have one.
Id have thought the 3G sim would actually be the norm nowadays....i guess Orange are probably trying to save money by using up there 2G sims.

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

Just a quick recommendation, make sure you request a USIM from your service provider. The newer USIM's have alot more functional built in.
They started rolling out 18 months ago, so if your sim is older than that, its worth swopping over.

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

What's the difference between a 3G sim and a USIM?

I've only just got my new 3G simcard today and yeah you guessed it... works spot on. Got full 3G signal!

Re: Blackberry Bold Orange 3G problems

Got another problem now..

Got FULL 3G signal, however speeds are absolutely appaulling.

Went away last weekend and it took me 15 mins to even load up a website properly (with full 3G), it's the same wherever I am. Infact alot of the time my partners BB is faster online and she only has 2G.

Any ideas? I've called Orange once but they were extremely unhelpful.

Do they need to connect me to the 3G network or anything? Or is it as simple as once you have 3G signal then that should be it?

Cheers..
