Re: Members ideas on this set up please

are you intending to mount the plasma in the recess above aswell...
if so, my opinion is that its restrictive (ie fixed size recess) so will be a load of effort if you ever swap out the plasma and go LARGE.
re the shelf, it looks great if you ask me, will look very neat and tidy, but again a little restrictive if you decide to get a box here and there - perhaps in the future.
i know when i have made2measure things in the past, 6-12 months later I have sometimes regretted not adding that extra bit of space...
just my two penneth

Re: Members ideas on this set up please

The recess is only afews inches so it would be possible to go bigger in future its been built for a 46-47 inch tv but could accomadate 50inch plus. With the shelf i am slightly worried it looking to bold and not sure what sort of finish i could get with Mdf, again it can be expanded in future if need be. Reason i chose the chunky effect shelf was cause it looks modern plus ideal way of hiding cables. I suppose it will all come down to finishing on how it will look

Re: Members ideas on this set up please

Be very careful about putting plasma in a recess. My mate years ago built a lovely false chimney breast for his plasma (can't remember the make, and yes it did have sufficient ventilation all round). But after 6 months the screen failed and supplier gave him his money back as it was unrepairable.

He bought a 42" Panasonic, but surprise surprise it was different size and no longer fitted the recess.
