Ikea Lack bookcase/ TV cabient help

I have a 52" samsung LCD 650 series that I'm planning on mounting. On the bottom I was going to put an Ikea lack bookcase, which I've seen a few people here use this bookcase sideways. I have two problems, one is that I have an HTPC I built that measures 17 inches, while the depth of this bookcase on Ikea's website says 15 inches. I'm starting to think the bookcase might be a no go, but not sure what other options are there for something similar.

Second question really is there anything i can put on the sides to hide cables? My wall is basically on a corner to a kitchen, so people can see the wall really well from the side and if cables are all over the place they will be able to see it. It's why I'm using a low profile bracket instead of a tilting bracket, but not sure if there's any suggestions on how I should hide the cabling in the back?
