Plasma wall mount

Need a wall mount for a Pio 6090. Not keen on spending out the £250 odd for a Pioneer bracket, so whats available and where?

Ta!

Re: Plasma wall mount

You've got be kidding? You've presumably just spent upwards of 4 grand on a telly and don't want to spend a measly £250 on a wall bracket?! I think if it was me i'd want the offical one that I knew would be up to the job of holding that beauty nice and safe where I put it!

Re: Plasma wall mount

To be perfectly honest I dont like to be ripped off and the Pio bracket looks to me like a bit of pressed, powder coated steel. ie all of about £20 to make! Ive seen other brackets that look every bit as substantial for around the £100 mark, hence the question!

The other thing thats strikes me is the the Pio bracket looks to mount the panel very close to the wall. Now as I will be making connections with component video, (amongst others), and from what Ive seen these will be pointing straight out the back, Im wondering if there will be enough clearance.........?

Re: Plasma wall mount

Hi. I agree with you about OEMs prices. Just bought one from Amazon for my Panasonic 37 inch for £23.76 inc delvery. Allcam is the make and they do a range which will take pretty well any size screen. Mine is very well made - solid as rock. IMO it isn't so much the bracket that's the limiting factor, more likely the wall it's fixed too. I've know people spend a fortune on the OEM bracket, then fix it to a plasterboard/stud wall.

Re: Plasma wall mount

I am in the same predicament as you regarding what wall mount to get for my LCD. Apparently the 3 things to look for before buying are:

"Firstly, you need to decide how manoeuvrable you want your TV to be. Would you like to be able to rotate it vertically and horizontally? Or would you like it fixed to one place? You can find wall mounts to accommodate both of these needs.

Another thing to consider is the strength of the wall mount. You may want to save a few dollars by getting a cheap one, but what if it can’t take the weight of your LCD TV? These TV’s are lightweight, but you should check the amount of weight the wall mount can safely hold before buying it.

Another thing to look out for is how the wall mount holds the LCD TV. Does it hold it with clamps? It’s usually wise to stay away from these. I prefer wall mounts that allow the TV to stand in grooves instead. This is a much safer and securer way of securing your TV, and making sure there isn’t any expensive accidents."

I think the 3rd point is quite important really.

Hope this helps.

Re: Plasma wall mount

Quite happy for the panel to be fixed as I wont need to move it for any reason. Wall is masonry.

Re: Plasma wall mount

I do agree that most of these brackets are much the same and any bracket thats just flat on the wall depends more on the bolts holding it on there than the bracket itself so yes, you should be fine with a more inexpensive bracket.

I however wanted a swivel arm to mount my Panny due to the layout of my living room and to avoid the danger of mounting it on a stand i.e. little grubby hands all over it and the danger of it being knocked/pulled over!

Didn't like the look of most of them but was recommended one by a nice chap on here, a Barkan 4 swivel type and its great. Very handy for numerous veiwing situations!

Re: Plasma wall mount

I used one of these http://www.standanddeliver.com/acata...unt_UCL-X.html for my Panny 58" ..however, i did need a particular type of mount that would sit 4" out, but flush with a surface 4" out as the mount is in a recess behind the main TV, the TV covering said recess (if you get what I mean) ...anyway, these are like the Rolls Royce of mounts, top quality materials, constructions, instructions, bolts n screws...everything spot on with adapter kit for every TV on the market supplied

Obviously if you dont need a mount like this, they do cheaper ones, but saying that, I paid £319.99 for mine about a year ago ...just cant remember where - sorry.

But if you have a £3-4K TV I would be wanting to know that its on a safe, quality mounty - this can hold 90Kg, and after mounting it I swung around on it myself at full extension, just to be sure

On the other hand, I needed to mount a 37" LCD in the bedroom, bought a cheap mount of ebay for £50...now it does the job, the but the quality of the metal, general construction, instructions, screws/fittings ...everything about it was of a much lower quality and it took a lot longer to mount before I was happy with the TV being on it ok.

You pays your money, and takes your choice.........
