Why are some stands limited to 32" screens?

I'm getting rather irritated in that I have found a stand that will fit my requirements exactly http://www.standland.co.uk/ZINUKGL409CL.htm but my screen will be a 37" and this stand is limited to 32".

The TV I'm after is 18KG and only 910mm wide - so its lighter than some 32" sets and only fractionally wider.

Is there any good reason why couldn't I use this stand?

Re: Why are some stands limited to 32" screens?

Ok, here's my view on this. Stand manufacturers/resellers must 'play it safe' when quoting the limitations of stands etc. Most firms (like the one you list) will give a max size/weight capacity of a stand and say it will be good for LCD & Plasma screens.

However, Plasma screens are heavier than LCD, therefore I think the limitations quoted will be based upon a worst case scenario - ie: the customer using a heavy Plasma.

If your using an LCD which weighs much less that the max capacity of the stand - there's a good chance you'll be ok, provided you don’t go too far beyond the max screen size quoted – remember good old physics will play a role.

I think stand manufacturers/resellers would do better if they were to list the stand/bracket limitations based upon LCD & Plasma screens separately.

If you decide not to take the risk, why don’t you look at the next model up – UKGL-410 which takes screens up to 42” and has 3 shelves.
