Cooling your AV cabinet.

Hi All!

I've had a enclosed AV cabinet for a while, which houses all my goodies and I've cooled it since installing it, with a 120mm silent computer case fan fitted in the bottom shelf, ducted through the FLOOR, into the cool, well ventilated under-building of my lounge. The fan draws air up , blows past all the gear then another (variable speed) silent 80mm fan at the top of the cabinet draws out the warm air.
I realize that cutting a hole in the floor seems a bit drastic but the gains are AMAZING!. I cut the carpet under my cabinet so that seam tape under the carpet can be used to repair it, used a hole saw for the duct pipe itself which I pushed through the underfloor insulation into clear air. The cutout piece of flooring was put aside, to be put back in at a later date if needed, using a thin metal plate and screws.
Temperatures (inside the cabinet) are down to 28c (fans on) from 50c+ (fans off) with everything running!
I used a 12v power supply I had for an old keyboard, fitted a little junction box to its output cable and just fitted both the fans to that.
Easy Peasy!
P.S. Fit the lower fan under the floor if you can, as its absolutely silent!
Cheers
50send.
