Question Wide/discreet blind required for partition between living room and dining room.

Hi folks,

We've got a partition between the edge of our living room (to our right as we're sitting down watching TV), that allows in too much light on a bright sunny day (as I've just discovered while trying to play GTA IV ) as we not only have wide patio doors, but also Velux windows in roof/ceiling of the extension.

The PJ only went in late last year (October or so), so daylight wasn't really an issue, but I'm now quite conscious that watching a film on a long light evening will be problematic.

The partition is approx 95" wide, so what I'm looking for is some kind of discreet blind that can live at the the top of the partition and can be lowered when we want to watch something whilst it's still light out.

I don't mind if it sits on the dining room side of the partition either so that it's not visible from the living room side, I just need to really reduce the amount of light coming in.

All suggestions/advice welcome as always.

I'll get a picture of the partition up in a while (as soon as I've charged my camera!).

Cheers.

Just had a quick Google....

Something like this perhaps?

Or is £152.00 too much?

Sorry-I should have said that rough measurements are 230cm wide and 240cm top to bottom.

That is rough and measured at the extreme points.

On a slightly tangented view. Have you thought about shutter doors to close the gap to the dining room off totally? The ones that consetina up.

Yes, but we felt it would make the living room too cluttered/claustrophobic adn that's why we felt a blind above the partition (dining room side so invisible as you come in to the living room) would be the way to go.

Thanks.

What about some Japanese style sliding panels? Or some heavy drapes?
Whether they would fit with the rest of the place is another question...

You could try conservatory blinds on an electric RC motor

Not an option really, we just want a fairly basic (hidable) blind to drop down as and when.

Re: Wide/discreet blind required for partition between living room and dining room.

Looks to me that you already have your answer; you've rejected all other suggestions so far... that really only leaves a blind (which was your original proposal anyway) so that's pretty much that isn't it?

Why not Google 'custom blackout blinds'?

I was looking more for opinions on suppliers of blinds.

As per post #2, I did Google Blackout Blind Suppliers and found this: http://www.247blinds.co.uk/roller_bl...x=30&image.y=1

The thing I am unsure of having never bought a blind like this before is where to start regarding costs etc.

The blind will be situated on the dining room side of the partition mainly up (and therefore invisible from the main living room area which is important) and simply rolled down for film watching, the unit itself isn't going to be/doesn't need to be a work of art that will be permanently visible to us and visitors.

Re: Wide/discreet blind required for partition between living room and dining room.

How about some sliding fabric panels? B&Q do a diy kit (can't seem to find it on their website though) or you can get it made to measure at somewhere like http://www.newblinds.co.uk/content/panel_blinds
