Question why the nuts?

i got a pair of stands. the spikes are built like a screw, when they go through the holes on the stand, you have to screw them in. there's also a slit on the top of the spike's head for a screwdriver. what is the nut for, to fix it tighter to the stand? does it go below the stand's metal (between stand and floor) or above the stand's metal ?

Re: why the nuts?

Without seeing it I would guess that the nut is a locking nut for if you don't want to screw the spikes all the way in (e.g. for levelling purposes) - you can screw them in part way then tighten the nut down from the top to lock it.

not sure what you mean by a locking nut, but the spike screws all the way through the nut, it doesn't stop it alone. it's just a regular nut, nothing special about it at all.

what's best to do? i thought optimal was to screw spikes in all the way through and put on a spike foot. don't see how the bolt fits into that equation.

Re: why the nuts?

The nut is probally used for making small adjustments to the level of the speaker.

So you would put the spike through the nut, then screw the spike into the speaker, you would then raise or lower the nut to level the speaker off.

Much like the feet you get on a cooker, fridge etc to level them with

Re: why the nuts?

this is the stand in question:

i think the spike screw goes in from the top and the nut is tightened from the bottom to the stand. yes? what the nut does i don't quite understand...

Re: why the nuts?

They are lock nuts, you use them to lock the spikes into position. They tighten against the underside of the stands. You use the spikes to level up the stands then once level hold the spikes in place with a screwdriver and tighten the nuts up against the underside of the stand. This will stop the spikes from turning due to the vibrations going through the stands.
