Filling speaker stands advice needed

I am new to this site so apologizes if this has been done to death before!

I've just bought a pair of Atacama SE24 stands which I'm told their performance will be greatly improved by filling them with lead shot/sand etc.

Firstly, is this correct. Will I be able to tell a difference with my trusty old Mordaunt Short 20i's?

If so, what would you suggest is the best filler?

I'm not an audiophile by any means so looking for the most economic method.

Thanks

Re: Filling speaker stands advice needed

Hi DIbster,

There are many fill materials available - many of which suggest some attribution to snake oil or magic charms to make them a. expensive, b. marketable & c. acoustically fantastic.

My advice is to use childrens play sand (line your stands first with a plastic sack etc. But it is cheaply available, non toxic/corrosive and does the job extremely well (especially in comparison to some of the alternates that will cost you an arm & a leg).

I hope this Helps
