Real trouble finding my perfect TV / AV Stand

Hi All,

Trying to find the perfect TV / AV stand for my coming together Home Cinema, but I am finding it really hard. I am (hopefully) about to buy a Sony KDL-40W3000, and before I get that I need to buy the stand for it and to house my AV gear, which is the following:

Xbox 360
Sky+ (Soon to be Sky HD once TV is got)
HTPC - In a Silverstone LC17 Case
Yamaha sl-rx80 slimline Amp
Small Satelite Center Speaker - this is to go on the top shelf with the TV, and just in front.

I also need it to expand with my hopeful new purchases, which include:
PS3
Onkyo 605 Amp

The TV is going to be put in a recess / alcove that is 110cm wide. The TV is also going to have to be at a slight angle, but the stand doesn't need to be. ALSO I do have a 4 year old, so it would be preferable to have closing doors with glass. It also needs to be able to house my deep LC17 HTPC, which is 425mm deep. I have had in the past pieces of equipment overhanging at the front of stands, but not any more!!!

I have spent alot of time searching for a stand, and these are the ones I found, all with 1 wrong thing:

Atacam Equinox - Perfect size, as I can have my HTPC and Amp next to each other, but it is open to little fingers

Soundstyle Arca Nuevo 200 - Again perfect size, and also closes. But Wooden doors, so to use remotes, they would need to be open. Also worried about overheating, even though back is open. If only this came with glass doors.

Quadraspire QK-AV Cabinet - Perfect in every way, but the price - £800!!!!!

Double qube TV stand - I like this wood look, but the top 2 shelves are too small, and also open.

I know that all these choices are pretty different, but I really need some help and ideas. I think the 2 most important things are having it deep enough (Min 450mm - 460mm) and wide enought to fit 2 x 435mm units side by side, while staying under 110cm long. Has anyone got any ideas?

thanks all

Re: Real trouble finding my perfect TV / AV Stand

A couple of thoughts:

You don't say how deep your alcove is, but if it is deep enough, have you considered a built in cabinet or shelves? Bespoke carpentry can be expensive, but it might be an affordable option, or at least less than £800! You could then paint the shelves the same colour as your walls for a more unobtrusive look if you wanted to, leave gaps at the back for cables and airflow etc

You could also add a third dedicated shelf for your centre speaker (with glass or plexiglass doors only covering the equipment shelves, or whatever you need.

Also, won't glass doors create similar cooling problems to wooden ones?

Re: Real trouble finding my perfect TV / AV Stand

Having the exact same problem here, alcove stand, 100cm wide max, away from my little lads prying hands (he pulled the PS3 USB wire out this week, just started crawling :D) so needs doors and I want mine in oak.

Alphason 1100 is nice, but too wide for me.
