Stand sizes according to TV size

Hello all,

I am buying a Samsung LE46F86 and have seen it in a shop on a black Alphason AV42/3.
Would someone please be able to advise me on if it's necessary to have a 46" stand for a 46" TV? The TV in the shop was on a 42" stand?

What are the concerns....do you need a matching size due to weight, etc?

Any ideas/advice would be great.

Thanks,
N

Re: Stand sizes according to TV size

From my experience looking at the boxes of a few stands ive seen they hold up to like 100kg. A large tv only weighs in the region of 20-35kg so i think as long as the pedestal stand fits on the tv stand you should be fine!

Thanks m4rkie23.
I agree with checking the weight restrictions and tempered glass is apparently a must.

Cheers,

Re: Stand sizes according to TV size

No worries. tbh i think all glass stands now are tempered.

It depends if you want the sides of the tv to overhang the stand, or you want the stand to be bigger than the tv, or you want them be equal sizes.
I think a smaller stand will make the tv look bigger, and a visa versa.
Theres not alot between the prices is there so choose depending on the look you want (and one that fits all of your av equipment in)

good luck choosing the right one!

Re: Stand sizes according to TV size

In most cases the smaller stand in the same range are actually stronger, we do several stands that come in 60cm 80cm and 1-1.2m sizes.

They all use the same thickness of glass and because of the shorter span will the smaller stands hold more weight, so putting a larger LCD/Plasma TV than was intended is not a problem as far as weight is concerned.

Re: Stand sizes according to TV size

The most important thing with any stand is that the stand can take the weight of the tv, with glass shelved stands these days most of the top shelves are 8mm plate glass which can take a fair weight.

At the min i have an Alphason AD3/67-LCD clear glass stand, the stand on the alphason site says its suitable for upto 37 inch televisions.

Ive put a 42 inch plasma on this stand after speaking to Alphason first for piece of mind as the literature says that the top shelf will support upto 97 kg and my tv is only 42 kg, i had to use this stand as i can`t get anything wider into the alcove as ideally i wanted the Aragon Series AG94/2-S but its too wide for the space.

It works well and suits my needs for the moment.

Re: Stand sizes according to TV size

Excellent stuff, really appreciate the informative replies.
Good point on checking with the manufacturer to confirm weight. I just hope that no one bumps into the TV in our lounge if it's sticking out over the stand. I wouldn' t mind them bumping into the stand so much

Thanks,
N
