Stand for TV, AV boxes and centre speaker

Dear all,

I want to upgrade to a 50" plasma and need a wider stand. I'm looking for a wider unit, say around 1400mm, that has 2 shelves that would each allow me to have 3 pieces of equipment side by side. The top shelf needs to have enough height, say 225mm or so, to house an tall amp, a centre speaker and another box. The bottom shelf could be less high, say 150 - 200mm to house the slimmer boxes (Sky, Wii etc). The plasma would be mounted on a pedestal stand on the very top.

Ideally, I'm trying to keep the total height of the unit as low as possible (around 400-500mm).

I'm willing to spend up to around £400, if need be. Does anyone know of any suitable units?

Re: Stand for TV, AV boxes and centre speaker

How about something like this ? two of the abr1100`s. But if you really want your centre speaker hidden inside, the smaller version is 80cms i think, so three of those, but leaving the glass out of the middle one, and inserting speaker fabric instead might look the business.

I`m sure someone could do a better image, but it`s late and i`m knackered

Banksie, thanks but this one is no good. It is the right width, but the centre support means I cannot get a centre speaker (in the middle).

Paulie-W, thanks for the several ideas, but the space I have is about 1.60m wide, maximum, so I'm not sure any of you suggestions are suitable.

No worries mate

Looks like you`ll just have to knock a wall down then

Not so fast with the sledge hammer, Paulie ... I found this stand that appears to suit my requirements just fine and fits in the gap very nicely.

The only problem appears to be trying to get hold of one ... I called several Atacama dealers and none have one in stock.

That`ll work, nice find. Just hope you can snag one. Just double check on the internal maeasurments (between the posts etc), and dont forget about allowing at least 4cms for the cable inputs, unless you have super bendy cables of course

Re: Stand for TV, AV boxes and centre speaker

I bought one and it looks really good with my 50" Panasonic. The service from Atacama was fantastic (they delivered it direct), even down to giving me the drivers mobile so I could negotiate a delivery time before 11am.

Re: Stand for TV, AV boxes and centre speaker

Hi. I bought before Xmas a fantastic cabinet/stand from Kuban. http://www.kuban.co.uk

Mine is the KTS 600 in walnut which has two cupboards and a centre section for speaker with grille. The build quality is superb (Kuban do loads of bespoke high end work for AV installers and the finish is really top notch compared to the, IMO, slightly questionable quality of the bulk stands for sale elsewhere). There are two adjustable shelves (ie three pieces of kit each side) in each side which are ventilated with cut outs to ease heat dissipation above and below and the back is totally open for the same reason. The centre grille section is perfect and houses my SPL-800R Velodyne sub-woofer like it was made for it but would house a centre speaker too). A lovely piece of furniture too. Plenty of room for a plasma on top although mine is on the wall.

They currently have a sale on ex trade fair stands with up to 20-30% off. Mine was ex trade show and is pristine. You are talking around £600 odd though but I think the quality is worth paying for compared to the mass market stuff. Miles is the guy there to speak to.
