Advice on DIY Glass Shelf.

I'm currently planning a build for my home cinema due to the HTM7 being so massive it doesnt fit in mid price racks....optimum can take it but the rack would be over 400 for my needs

My plan involves a glass shelf at the top. It will be 1000mm by 500mm. Now i need it be be able to hold a plasma screen when support only at the ends.

Anyone know type/thickness/cost of glass which can hold around 50kgs when supported like this?

Re: Advice on DIY Glass Shelf.

6mm toughened will be ok at those sizes but go for 8mm toughened , if the edges are showing get them polished but it will cost,a trick is to get the edges sanded down or arrised and then rub oil into them after they have been toughened gives a polished look, but not as good as the real thing up close

on any toughened glass the edges are the weakest point

if you we close i could have done you a nice price on toughened glass

Re: Advice on DIY Glass Shelf.

Being in an industry that uses large amounts of toughened glass those prices seem good to me for 10mm polished BS6206, especially as they include delivery which has probably added a lot to the prices.
