Take the discs out of their cases and store them in wallets.
Bingo, what once took several book cases can now be stored on 1 shelf.

I've indexed mine and built a database to help find them. Much easier.

Re: Ideas for storing 600 + DVD in my front room ?

Yes a friend of mine has all his on display. It does look impressive I'll admit, but I hate grovelling on the floor looking for those on the bottom shelf... and my friend's colelction has grown to about 1000. It's taking over room.

trouble is, with that case is that he wants to show off the collection so its not a great option for him.
im building my own so i cant comment on the ones he wants, but the one in the corner on the stands unique site looks nice, imo.

Re: Ideas for storing 600 + DVD in my front room ?

I quite like the look of the Stands Unique one.

I have got the Billy bookcase for my collections. I got the £182 one shown on the site with the height extensions. They are not the best looking things in the world, but are not too bad, and cannot be beaten for capacity per £. Probably worth paying extra for the veneer ones over the white IMO.

Mine holds 400+ DVDs, the best part of 1000 CDs, a few hundred vinyl LPs, and still has room for some books and a small fish tank!

It provides a lot of storage space, but you are best to buy a few extra shelves for DVDs.

I have 2 racks from a company called red displays. Very good quality. more expensive than Ikea stuff, but it comes all made up so there is no putting it all together yourself.
I would recommend +++++

Re: Ideas for storing 600 + DVD in my front room ?

Ive been using these for about the last 5 years, and find them great. first using the computer speed sheet that comes with the unit you type a list of the disc tiles, the spreadsheet arranges them alphabetically and list them 1 to 100, then print this numerical list off and place it on the front of the unit. You then place all your discs in the unit as numbered on the selection list. Then when you want a disc just slide the selector along to that number and lift the lid of the unit and the disc is lifted out for you.
They also lock and have a handle for carrying.

You can get them from this link http://www.romdex.co.uk/index.html
