Block 2000 series question

I have near enough decided to purchase the Block 2000 series av unit in maple. I would like grille doors or sandblasted glass.

Does anyone know if the remote eye thingie will work through sandblasted glass?

I presume if I have the grille doors I will not need the remote eye, should the remote just work through the mesh?
