tv heavier than stand

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone used a stand that was not suitable for the weight of the - or is that just asking for trouble.

jsut ask as i have seen a stand i wanted suitable for up to 42 inch but it can only take 30kg. The tv is 40kg - i am guessing that 10kg over is too much to risk.

Re: tv heavier than stand

Depends a lot on how well built the stand is - IKEA used to make some very conservative estimates about the size of TV their stands would take.
My 32" CRT weighs over 70Kg before you start with amps, Tivo etc. so on balance I'm well over the stated capacity - I took some precautions and strengthened it when I was assembling and have never had a problem but I'd say going 33% over with a flat panel stand is probably pushing your luck.
