Swedish stand designers are silly - Ikea Stormark

Generalisations ahoy!

Just posting this for the benefit of any other people considering this unit.

I went to Ikea today to buy the Ikea Stormark stand and I took my tape measure along, it looked suitable in the pics. I had measured my existing unit in every possible way and my amp, cd, dvd, sky.

So standard width of AV gear is 44cm yes? Can you guess what the internal width was of the shelves? 87cm. There was absolutely no way I could fit any of my gear on their side by side, I could have 2 standard size things on it but no more.

87cm!!! What were they thinking when they made it, "why would anyone possibly want more than 1 thing on the shelf, they can have their amp dead centre this way".

Hnnnnngh!

So now I'm proper stuck, can't get anything wider than about 100cm and it has to take a 32 CRT.

I have a similar problem. I ended up taking the legs off an Ikea coffee table (its silver with black glass "doors") and putting it under the TV stand (with legs in stupid positions soo that you can't put 2 full width/ depth units side-by-side). Not ideal but...

you do need to allow space around each component for heat dissaption!

but i agree, why not reduce the overall width and add it to an extra shelf!

but that's the point I was making, if they had given it just 1cm more it would have made more sense let alone 3-5cm. It's obviously been made for looks/price rather than with AV in mind.
