Heat and Alphason AMBRI 1100-B Plasma Stand

Hi there,

I have the Alphason cabinet. What a lovely piece of furniture.

A pain to actually get any decent kit into so come prepared with a hacksaw lol.

Anyway, got everything in as follows:

Left side - Media PC, Cambridge Audi DV55(?) DVD Player and Pioneer XDE Media Box - No glass shelf but none of the kit has top vents

Right side - Yamaha 757SE amp, glass shelf, Topfield PVR5800

As far as the left side, the heat seemed ok and disappated.

On the right hand side, touching the top of both the amp and the toppy, it was very hot. I cannot comment on whether they are hotter than normal as I never spent much time caressing them. I certainly wouldnt want to leave my hand on there for more than a few seconds.

So, first things first, I assume leaving them like this they will soon enough pack up with this much heat?

Secondly, does anyone else have this cabinet and come up with any mode or ideas on how to let the heat out, apart from leaving the front door down or removing the back panel?

It is a nice bit of furniture and well built but any kit that is even slightly bulkier than normal will have problems without a hacksaw.

Dunno where it was on here, but I saw someone with a very flash home setup and this cabinet who'd cut loads of holes in the back of one of those, and IIRC fitted fans.

It was someone who posted their entire DIY process in the DIY forum...

Check out my ABR1100, post 5 on this thread:

Opinion needed on Alphason ABR 1100-B please

I cut put the fans in the centre section for the XBOX with a simple on/off curcuit, My Amp doesn't seem to get very hot but I suppose the hole in the back, although for the cables helps cool it......................Now where do i put the PS3???????

Thanks both for your replies.

Nick,

Very neat, not sure I could achieve that myself. But, I like the idea of cutting out a large part of the back panel. I have hacked bits out already. It wouldnt be a problem as mine is stuffed to the brim. I will try and take some photos tomorrow.

Only other problem is mine is quite close to the wall.

Lovely cabinet, not really designed for large equipment though, or those who are naff at DIY lol

Re: Heat and Alphason AMBRI 1100-B Plasma Stand

To be honest it wasn't really that hard to cut the holes.
The back panel is hardboard so all I did was drill the holes in the corners of the section I wanted to cut out and then use a sharp stanley knife to join them up.

Its like a more adult game of join the dots!!!

I have cut little bits out already but for me to cut in a straight line and make it look that good would take a miracle lol

Re: Heat and Alphason AMBRI 1100-B Plasma Stand

I've recently brought this stand and the 1st time I used my Xbox 360 I nearly cooked it.

I've now fitted a 120mm case fan and powered it via the rear USB port on the 360 this seems to have helped but still need to open the door during a very long gaming session.
