LCD lift thru 90 degrees - how can I do this?

Anyone able to help a first timer? I'm looking for a way to lift a 32" LCD (probably Sony KDL-32V2000) from a horizontal stowage position inside a window seat (still to be designed) to a vertical viewing position, like a ceiling lift in reverse but without the price tag. Anyone tried doing this? What can I use to aid lifting the set and damp its descent? I've looked at gas struts, but my engineering nous isn't up to the task of speccing one. Can anyone see any pitfalls?

Many thanks,

Dave

Is storing a panel in a horizontal position a good idea. They usually suggest they are transported upright to prevent the glass flexing and potentially cracking ? So would storing it horizontally lead to a broken screen ?

Thanks for your help guys. I will certainly check with the panel manufacturer about horizontal storage - something I hadn't though of. The linear actuators look good, but hit the stops on my engineering knowledge. Hey-ho, I could always remortgage the wife and go to a specialist.

I'll post some pics if it ever gets off the ground (figuratively speaking...)
