How Important are stands? (for B&W 602)

Having just ordered my starting system, I am waiting for my spangly new B&W 602's to arrive

I didn't order the stands offered at the time, as I already went £100 over budget and they were expensive! I'm looking at 2nd hand more than likely.

I understand stands are quite important tho for the sound. As far as stand go tho, if there anything between various brands other than looks?

602`s are pretty heavy and large, so whatever you decide to get, make sure they`re sturdy enough. I had mine on some Attacama se24`s and they sounded pretty good.

stands are pretty much stands as long as they meet 2 conditions...1, they support the speakers well, so that they won't allow the speakers to fall off if you bumped them, or that they won't topple themselves. Many can be filled with sand to make the bases heavy and more stable. the second criteria is that they put the speaker at the correct height.

aprt from that, as long as they look good to you, they should be fine

If I recall, the 602 are pretty big - you might want to look at 500mm (20") stands rather than 600mm (24").

Atacama SE5 are pretty solid, and when sand-filled mine weigh 14kg each, so a speaker blu-tacked to the stand is going nowhere!
