Question Centre speaker shelf/support needed

I'm planning to install a 42" plasma display on a chimney breast and need to find a suitable support for the centre speaker. The plan is for the speaker to sit on some kind of shelf below the screen and just above an electric fire. The fire will have a fan that blows warm air into the room so I don't anticipate the speaker or plasma display suffering from too much heat.

Can anyone recommend a speaker support that can take a B&W CMC - about 16"W x 8"H x 9"D weighing around 12-14lbs?

Thanks.

You could channel a piece of toughened glass into the wall (assuming you will be doing that for the cabling anyway) so it looks like it`s floating. I saw this done on a staircase so a center speaker should be ok

Nice idea but it makes it kind of permanent inasmuch as it would create a bit of a mess if it needs removing. Glass supports always seem a lot more expensive than MDF.

I'm still chewing over how I will cope with the cabling. I'd like to feed it through the space where the fire was and out of the side of the breast towards the unit containing the amp. Whatever I do I need to make sure I can add or remove cables reasonably easily as I will use that route for the component/VGA cable to the screen. A HDMI cable might be used in the future.

But back to the support... I was looking for a discrete frame that didn't attract attention to itself. The glass shelf is a good idea but if I can bolt a frame to the wall supporting either a glass or MDF shelf that would be ideal.

Re: Centre speaker shelf/support needed

You could try a bathroom specialist for the supports. I know it may sound like a strange idea, but they do have some impressive shelving. Just not too sure about the weight factor, but obviously that`ll be something for you to check out. Damn tricky situation to be in. Good luck however it turns out.

Thanks Paulie, I'll do some more searching including bathroom sites. You never know.

Things were so much more simple in the old days. Buy a telly, bring it home, plug in two cables. Job done!
