Ikea Oppli (almost) perfect

Hi all, my first post here

I have an Oppli, which fits all of my hifi/AV kit perfectly, apart from my centre speaker!

The centre speaker is about 1 cm too long to fit in the centre section - I have even considered taking an electric sander to each side of the stand's centre section

I cant fit the speaker on top either, as my TV is on there. Also, it cant go on top of the TV, as the system is in our loft and the sloping wall would be in the way.

Apart from my suggestion of actually sanding the centre section slightly I cant think of any way to fit my speaker! I've even thought of changing the speaker itself to something slightly shorter, but i'd rather not.

I guess what I need is a stand just like the Oppli, but SLIGHTLY longer? ANy ideas would be really appreciated

Re: Ikea Oppli (almost) perfect

build your own!

Here's mine I made earlier.

I've since built another slightly larger one to contain my THX speakers.
The one I built in that thread above has now been dismantled, but could easily be screwed back together.
Hey, I could be persuaded to sell it in the classifieds if there was any interest.

Re: Ikea Oppli (almost) perfect

It depends on how heavy your TV is but you could probably assemble the rest of the Oppli and simply glue the central supports slightly wider than the bolts. It won't be as strong but that may not be an issue if you have an LCD or Plasma. My Oppli used to hold a 70KG 32" Sony CRT + all the assorted amps and things. Shifting the supports will not affect it's direct load bearing much but it goes without saying that not bolting the central sections in will make the unit less rigid and more prone to twisting, but if you don't move it loaded that would probably not be a problem.

Could you not take it apart and shorten the shelves down 1/2 cm each then move the centre upright supports further out to make you more space ?

Re: Ikea Oppli (almost) perfect

cheers for the ideas! I'll definately try moving the vertical sections slightly further apart. Its gonna be tight though, my Exposure seperates in the left section have about 2mm either side (front panel only). I could always have the front panels of my seperates overlapping at the front which would give a lot more space. Ideally though, id rather keep them set back slightly. My centre speaker is about 5mm too wide at the moment, so it means moving the vertical panels out about 2-3 mil eithwe way. OOOh its gonna be tight! At the other end i've got my AV amp / DVD, which have about 3-4 mil either side. I may even try moving the centre section to the right slightly, if you know what I mean.

Once im done i'll try and post up some photos. Thanks a lot, great idea
