One speaker on a stand, one on a bookshelf?

Was wondering if the above is advisable? I've just got a couple of Quad 11L's, and to the right of the room there is nowhere to put a stand (but a big sturdy bookshelf), but to the left, there's just floorspace. So, my thought was to put one of the speakers on the shelf, and put the other one on a stand.

Also, if this is OK, I've no idea what stands to go for as there seem to be so many! Anyone know off hand, what stands go well with the Quads?

Just my personal opinion but solid wooden stands are about the best you can get at any price. You can get some that you can fill but i've never found the need.

Thanks for that. Any ideas where to purchase these? Google throws up not a lot!

WAF comes into play here. We have a shiney metal lamp (about 7 feet high) where the speaker is to go, so the wood will look daft.

ah, wives are always an issue......
Try something from Atacama. You may have a problem finding 'polished' stands, most are a matt silver or black. They do work well and are reasonably priced. Buying them individually may be a problem though.
Providing the bookshelf is deep enough it may be worth putting the speaker on a spiked plinth.
