Solid Oak Entertainment Cabinet

Hi,

We had trouble trying to find a solid oak home entertainment cabinet that would fit the kit and leave room for future expansion and also have some storage in.

Then we happened across a place called Olney Furniture Gallery Limited. They are based in Olney in Beds (not far from Milton Keynes) and they have a range but will also do bespoke.

I put together a scale image in, believe it or not, MS Excel, along with lots of notes on what we wanted - based on something we saw in their shop.

They quoted for it and we went ahead and 3 weeks later it was delivered.

Here's a screenprint of our spec in Excel:

and here's a couple of pics (not a great angle as it looks distorted but you get the idea):

If you like it or you want something similar you could do a lot worse than get in touch with them:

If you are interested, I use a Logitech Harmony 895 remote to control all the kit wirelessly with the cabinet door shut, I've posted about it here:

Very nice. Being a closed in back you need to watch the temperature inside though.
How much did you pay (or shouldn't I ask?)

Thanks

Yes was a bit concerned about temperature - there are 3 big 7cm deep rounded 'holes' (slits) in the back of each cupboard and each cupboard has lots of space around the kit and not too much kit in any one section. That's the best I could think of doing but will have to keep an eye on it - doesn't tend to get watched/used for hours on end so is off/on standby a lot.

RE: Cost, I didn't want to put people off with that so left it out - it is a huge cabinet and is bespoke with lots of little extras like a removable back, adjustable shelves at a specific interval, the cuts in the back.... 850 quid delivered. Might sound a lot but to us it was worth it to have something solid that we liked and the kit hidden.

I think it looks great - I am currently waiting for a oak cabinet to be made....cannot wait. Will post some pics when it finally arrives.
I agree with you that it is diffcult to find exactly what you want and designing it yourself, whilst expensive, is definately the best way! Well done.

Thanks Hairloss. Would be interested to know spec of yours vs. price you are paying for it to see if ours was competitive. I know that 'off the shelf' cabinets in solid wood of the same size as mine are upwards of 600 quid so we were happy to pay a bit more for something completely bespoke.

That's pretty good. I was expecting the £900 mark so I wasn't far out. It does look very good.
Horny, try www.audiodestination.co.uk based in Tiverton, Devon. They are stocking a slightly more (don't take this wrong Paul) Audiophile unit with isolation shelves etc.

Not a million miles away from what's being made for me by Touchwood Furniture in Mansfield; their website is here:

http://www.touchwoodfurniture.co.uk/

Ours is a costing a little more but does include folding doors and a semi-hinged top to accommodate a turntable, so I'd say that yours is in the right price bracket.

I'll post pics when it arrives.
