Alphason ADP3-96-PB anyone got one and...

Anyone got one and can tell me if the cables from the TV can be run through the arm to an amp / sky box etc. to hide the cables and stop them dangling down from the plasma ?

Also does anyone know if a Pioneer 436SXE could be mounted on the pivot arm, I know the XDE can but the 436SXE only has four smalls holes on the back nothing else. Would this work ?

Lastly I know its a personal preference, but in your opions which looks better clear glass or piano black. As I haven't had the opportunity to see either in the flesh.

Your opions and answers, greatly appreciated.

i have one of these in clear glass. really solid and well made - cables go down the arm at the back of the stand. dunno if it will fit sxe but i can't see why not.

Speak to Alphason Designs support and they should be able to help.

i would advise getting the football castors for this stand if you get one as it is very heavy once all kit is on and is impossible to move without the castors.

Height from top glass shelf of Alphason ADP3-96-PB to Pioneer 436XDE / SXE

I am looking to buy an Alphason ADP3-96-s stand and mount a Pioneer 436 plasma on it, either XDE or SXE. I have the B&W M1 satellite speakers and was hoping to have these along the top shelf of the stand. So I can put all my av gear on the other two shelves.

I need to find out the height between the shelf and the bottom of the plasma to know if the speaker will obscure the plasma's screen or not.

Thanks in advance.

The cables cannot be run through the arm, but I have ty-rapped mine in such a way as to make them 'almost' invisible, apart from looking in the reflection of the top shelf. Obviously depending on the gap between the top shelf and the bottom of the plasma, the cables will be more or less visible.

I preferred Piano Black.

I have spent a lot of time getting the gap between the top shelf and the bottom of the plamsa down to a very small one, so don't know exactly how big it will go.

The Panny 37 also has only 4 holes and mounts OK, using the supplied metalwork.

btw. I was told by Alphason that the castors are not available for this particular stand, as it has 5 support legs (why that should make a difference I don't know), but I have managed to fit 60mm 'furniture gliders' available at Homebase, by cutting 15mm thick wooden 'discs' using a holesaw, and fitting these into the recesses at the bottom of the supports and then sticking the gliders onto those - works well on carpeted floors at least.

Once you can slide the stand easily it makes tidying up the cable and mounting metalwork so much easier.

hth

. The cables do go up the back leg of the stand (maybe arm was the wrong word) and the castors are available for this model stand as per alphason's website. I also have them on mine

Yes - I took the use of the word 'arm' literally, and you are quite correct that the rear support column is hollow to take cables.

However I am interested that you have fitted the castors to yours, as I was told by Alphason that they were not available for that stand and the web-site also says:

"Castors (Foot-Balls)
Inventive solution to the problem of moving your home
entertainment furniture.

Omni-directional ball castor provides smooth and easy
movement for the heaviest AV furniture.

Ingenious outer cover screws down around the castor when not
in use to firmly lock the unit into place.

Suitable for all TV & AV supports in the A Series and AD series

(Not compatible with AD3/51-lcd, ADP3/96-s and ADP3/96-PB)"

I like the look of this stand, but am unsure whether once the screen is mounted on the bracket, there would be room for anything else on the top shelf, i.e a centre speaker. My TV is a 32" JVC LCD, and the centre I have in mind is the Kef iQ6c, any idea owners?

I've got the PB version of this. It all depends on how high you mount the TV. My 42PX60 caused a few headaches as the HDMI sockets are mounted in the centre of the rear panel, and quite far up, which meant that the TV had to be mounted in such a way as to not block access to the sockets. What this meant for me is that the bottom edge of the TV is only about 2cm above the top shelf - enough for it to swivel freely, but making it impossible to have the centre speaker on the top shelf because

a) there is only about 5" of shelf width in front of the TV
b) when the TV swivels that width is reduced even further
c) the speaker would intrude above the bottom edge of the screen

With a 32", you might be okay, but to be honest the way I've set mine up looks better, imho - I have my piano black Monitor Audio Radius 180 on the second shelf, and my amp & dvd on the rhs of the bottom shelf, with my sky and TiVo on the left. The height and width of the bottom shelf means that you can fit plenty on it.

After researching some stands this seems like my likey buy also!!

As others have mentioned it does look like a good solid stand. Ive got a 37 PX60 and its a good thing im reading this thread as there are some socket access issues when adjsuting placement. Thanks for the info guys.

I also considered the soundstyle status310 but this would givve the plasma more of a floating look!

can I request a pic of someones already setup?

i'll try and post up my setup tonight if i get a chance.
They are a very solid stand and damn near impossible to move once all the kit is installed and screen hung on bracket.

As I said earlier up the thread, I modded some 'furniture gliders' to fit on the (5) legs, and it now very easy to slide the whole fully populated unit to give access to the back.

I didn't quite like the way some of the connectors were hampered by the metal support fittings, and once I could get easy access I set about making some minor mods to the vertical arm.

This meant drilling a couple of extra holes in the arm so that I could position the horizontal supports in a better position, whilst also reducing the amount of metal-work necessary. All in all a much neater solution, which also gives access to the rear sockets.

I could post pics of the modded hardware if anyone is interested..

OK - here are some details/pics:

To reduce the amount of metalwork behind the screen I did not use the vertical brackets. (RED in the pic)

I found that I could place the adjustable bracket in a better position on the arm assembly after I'd drilled two additional holes in the arm assembly.
(BLUE in the pic)

As it comes the adjustable bracket, (GREEN in the pic), only has a choice of two positions, mine now has an intermediate 3rd position, so that the connectors are not hampered. (The component cables are looped around so that the excess cable is tucked away).

To fit the glider feet I cut discs from 15mm thick wood using a 53mm hole saw. I drilled a hole in the centre to clear the nuts in the stand's feet and glued the wood discs in place using a hot-melt glue-gun. This will allow removal at a later date if needed.

The gliders come in packs of 4, so two packs are needed - (I got mine from Homebase for about £8 per set of 4)

The end result is that the cables are much neater and can hardly be seen from the front, and the whole can be slid for access, to take these pics for example

Hope this helps...

I posted one a while back, before I tidied up the wiring and the metalwork, but it looks much the same from the front.

Alphason Designs ADP3/96S - anyone got one?

Word of warning - the Alphason is only supposed to fit screens up to 42". Not sure if it's a weight or size issue, but I'd check before you head out and buy one.

I know what you mean finding this kind of stand to fit a 50" panel is a nightmare.
It is normally a weight issue with most manafacturers.
The only one I could really find to fit a 50" and larger is by Spectral.
We want the Aluminium with Black Glass option

Hey dont get me wrong it is a lovely high quality stand with a hefty price tag to match.

I have had to order my equipment over the telephone.

The TV is a 50" Pioneer plasma. The salesperson has recommended this stand and enclosed it with the order.

I have just checked it out on the Internet and discover it is only recommended for TV's up to 42"?

Will a 50" fit and will it be safe?

What stand have other members got for their 50" TV's?

I dont know if these are still available, but I've had mine since the first England game of the world cup set it all up about 10 mins before kick-off lol so thats June 06 , 19 months and it still looks as good as the day it went in

Its a great bit of Kit, couldnt rate it highly enough
I have a 42" Phd8(also great hehe) set 5" off the top glass to allow my cantoN QX center to snuggle underneath, However it has the adjustment to slam down to 1" above glass level, or even raise another 3" approx.

The swivel is VERY sturdy, and handy, due to a door on the tv wall the tv is slightly off center so when Wii playing, the whole panel can be swiveled towards the center of the room to keep the sensor correctly positioned.

I did my own version of "Amgards slider Mod" in that I reccessed my sliders so that they couldnt be seen at all , but in effect the feet sink into the carpet and underlay so much with all of the kit on there that you wouldnt see them anyway .(ITS VERY HEAVY WHEN LADEN BUT STILL MOVABLE)

the swivel is also a godsend when wanting access to the connections

I would give it 10/10 without a doubt, and imho I would suggest that a 50" would hang OK, but if they dont rate it for a 50" I guess thats for a reason

That said my 42" panel is 40" across, and the ADP3-96-PB is approx 43" so you do the math, asthetically It might not look quite right :s

If its the style you want for a 42" have no fears...

Nick

I fully endorse Nick's excellent assessment and would merely add we have a 50" plasma and the screen protrudes just over 3" from the edge of the 'table' bench\shelf thingie so there is possibly a slight chance of knocking the screen as we walk by, but the swivel movement absorbs this contact and touch wood it is not an issue. as the size of plasma screens increases, then hopefully we will see a greater choice of this excellent type of stand.

John
