Integrating decor with AV equipment design

I have a Sony 50" RP LCD TV finished in silver and dark grey on a silver and frosted glass stand.
My TV room has a matt black wall behind the TV and the other walls finished in mid grey and 'soft' lavender. The carpet is a plain mid grey and there are two chairs in a soft 'blush' pink.
The whole room looks 'clean' and modern.

You may not like it but that's not my point.
My question:
Why are so many people content to have a 'modern' looking big-screen TV dominating a room which is decorated in a manner that has nothing to do with the set's design?
For me, it looks so out of place.

The Missus/Wife/partner factor i believe plays a large part in the decor descisions.
Many people can only just get a large TV into the living room, even less manage to get it into their prefered posistion so decorating the room to match it is a step too far.
