Hi,
I'm putting together a used hi-fi system. So far I've bought a Marantz PM66-SE amp, Marantz CD-5000 CD Player and Eltax Monitor 3 speaker. And today I ordered a Mark Grant interconnect and some bi-wire OFC speaker cable.
Only things left to get are an AV stand for the amp/cd and, more importantly something to put the speakers on.
At the moment they're sat on the floor and obviously this makes them too bassy and flat sounding. If I tilt them back 30 degrees I can hear what they're supposed to sound like, and boy am I in for a treat when they're finally on stands and positioned
One thing about these speakers, they have their own (removeable) spikes on the underneath and a downward firing bass port, so they can't sit flush on a surface. This means the stands need a certain size of top plate - bigger than 145x160 mm (5.8x6.3 inches). I'm also looking for some that can be sand filled and have spikes on the bottom.
There's a few stands on ebay which fit this requirement, Atacama SE24 for one, some Mission stands, Soundstyle XS122, plus a few others. If I bought 2nd hand I'd be hoping to spend about £30 maybe plus postage. If I go with new one, obviously I'd be willing to spend a bit more, maybe £80 tops.
Any recommendations given my budget? Anything I should be looking for on ebay? Any brands I should avoid? I'm not really in a rush, I'll be getting them in about 2 weeks probably.
Thanks in advance,
Simon.
