Speaker stands piercing carpet

I own a set of Mission M71i's and am looking at getting the Mission Stance stands (stylish) but am slightly concerned about something I read in a review.

Apparently the stands do not pierce carpet too happily. How essential is it for the stands to pierce the carpet? Is there some benefit to them touching the floor? I will be filling them with something nice and heavy and using the spikes to rest the speakers on top if this helps...

I do not have excessively thick carpet, just standard pile with underlay underneath.

Has anybody else had experience of these stands on carpet? If there going to be an audible difference between these touching the floor and resting on carpet?

Many thanks,
Spangle

i think its a good idea to make them pierce the carpet more so for stability would be my concern,

Does the review specifically state that they do not pierce carpet too well even when filled? I'd have thought that if they were heavy then they should pierce the carpet and sit firmly on the floor.

I do not believe that the reviewer mass filled the speakers, I got the impression he wished to test them in their out-of-the-box state (I thought that was interesting). It was implied that they probably would do a better job if filled.

Stability is of course a cocnern as well, although I believe that the spikes are adjustable which I hoped might help help some way with this.

I'd have thought that the spikes would just be normal spikes, therefore when filled you should be okay.
