How can I buff up black leather?

hi,

I have a black leather sofa and two recliners in use all in black leather. They look great but could do with clean.

Not dirty as such, just typical of leather that has been used a lot

Any ideas before I polish them with house polish and ruin em ?

TurtleWax leather cleaner & conditioner perhaps . Or maybe some of that stuff that you see at the Ideal Home Show or on QVC , don't know what its called though
(I'm assuming that its shiney leather and not the "furry" kind )

Give a woman called Sally (020-8464 0306) a call on Monday and tell her what you have, and see should be able to supply some cream for them.

OK that may sound silly, but she works for a company that makes leather garments.

OK I have just had a call from the mother, and asked her. She said use warm soapy water and use a circular motion, then dry off.

Asda and other shops sell Wool-lite, normally found in the laundry cleaning aisles. Mix 6:1 with water (six parts water) and you have a great and safe cleaner. Stay away from normal soaps and detergents as they are often to harsh.

Whilst you shopping buy some cheap Microfiber cloths. Apply the Wool-Lite mixture with a soft cloth or even better a foam pad, gently rub in the liquid, wait for about a minute and wipe with a clean microfiber cloth. You dont need to soak the leather, a damp foam pad is enough.

This advice assumes you have a relatively new sofa which are clear coated. If it is say over 20 years old it might not be coated in which case make the dilution 10:1 and leave it for about 20 seconds. You then need to add something like Autoglym Leather Cleaner and buff off.

BTW, the Wool-lite is also a dammed good car interior cleaner and is a dammed site cheaper than most consumer car cleaners

You could try the "Absorb" leather care pack from IKEA. Comes with sponge, bottle of soapy liquid, and a bottle of leather nourishing cream. About £16 I think.

I suggest Liquid leather.

Really is a superb product, dont be put off by the fairly basic website !

Will make the sofas look like new, and smell even better than when new.


Just restored the Black Buffalino leather interior of my Wifes A4 TDI 130 Sport, looks and smells better than new

They must make this stuff from Cows or something...

That site looks good but it is important to understand which type of leather your trying to clean. For example cleaner/conditioners for non coated leather can weaken a coated leather.
