Question venting my cabinet?????

hello friendly forum users, I have come to the decision this evening that my cabinet requires modification to allow for adequate cooling of my equipment, my cabinet is this :

Low Level High Gloss TV Cabinet Review | CabinetDirector.com

frankly its a bit chocker block in there, and its about to get even worse heat wise! unfortunately i have no choice due to heights available but to use this cabinet (plus I already own it and don't want to spend even more money!)

inside the unit I have ps3 250 slim, xbox elite 250 slim, sky+ HD and will be swapping my samsung surround sound out for my new pioneer vsx 921 receiver next week! due to size limitations of the unit i have to stack my ps3 on top of the surround sound at present, but am thinking that really when the new receiver arrives i will have to swap everything around, with the new receiver sitting on top of the sky box, I cant see any other way of doing things in there.

I've always had a lot of dust in the house due to a number of reasons for instance the trees in my garden, all of our cats, a lazy wife..... (its fine she doesn't read this......I hope!! lol), so I want to be fitting fans with filters ideally, to slow the ingress of dust to the cabinet, I realize I will have to have a solid rear panel instead of the current setup and I'm thinking I can fit the fans in to this panel, two at the bottom two at the top exhausting the hot air, would fans on the side intaking cooler air also work or would it be overkill?

I just want to be certain all my stuff wont die a death from overheating or dust inhalation, any thoughts and suggestions greatfully received, also any links to popular fans or dust filters that are a known quality would be good
many thanks

Ok, today I picked up two 120mm fans with filters for induction and four 80mm fans for exhaust, 12v power supply and a thermostat for temp control and a load of wire to link them all up so there all in series, will have to build a new panel for the rear tomorrow to mount them all to, total cost for all bits .......... £0 lol, thanks to the used spares bin at work! (they said it was fine!) lol

Nice idea, but i wouldn't want all the noise. My PS3 is enough let alone even more! But i suppose what has to be done has to be done.

I had a similar problem - the advice i was offered can be found here: Cabinet cooling.......

It has worked - very quiet - keeps everything at the right temp - could not ask for more really!

I had the same as you... I use 4x120mm akasa ultra quiet fans connected to a multi-votage adapter after doing a bit of DIY to add molex plugs so that everything could be attached nicely. Running at 6v and you can't hear the fans at all. I also knocked up a couple of smaller fans with USB plugs attached to them so that I could run one near the SkyHD box (off the USB port on the back of the box) for when everything else is turned off.

At first, I had it all configured to blow air in from the open back of the cabinet over the top of components and pushing the air out of the front. I've since reconfigured them to suck the hot air and blow out of the back of the cabinet... not sure which is best yet, although the push configuration needs quite a high voltage to make sure air is pushed with enough force to keep components cool (particularly the AVR600 which gets stupidly hot!).

I think it's best to experiment but adding fans is a great option.
