Ikea Best - Where to Put the Centre Speaker ?

Hi,

We've got a Besta TV cabinet / stand set-up (see picture, although since this picture was taken we've got a nice black tv one extra balck cupboard on the end).

You may see in the picture the rather lonely looking Kef eggs on top. I would really like to be able to bring them down and mount them at a more sensible hieght. Unforunately all the Ikea Besta stuff seems to have a vertical support down the middle of the cabinet, which is in the way of the centre speaker.

Does anyone have any suggestions or best modifications that have worked ?

(don't know what's up with that picture link - maybe you have to be logged into skydrive - https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx...CsyRkN80n97YY4)

Although I don't see the picture the centre speaker needs to go under the tv
Often it is possible for it to go on one side of the centre column. Otherwise the only answers are either a new stand with the centre column at the rear allowing open access at the front, or a smaller centre speaker

thanks for your reply.

I would rather not replace the whole cabinet. However, I wonder if I might be ableto modify the centre support to match what you suggest.

Alternatively.

A Kef T101 speaker would actually fit BEHIND the TV. (there is a 3cm gap between bottom of tv and shelf below).

United Kingdom - Showroom - T101c

this seems like a bad idea though - anyone ever tried anything like this ?

thinking aloud

The T101 could actually be securedto teh front of the cabinet just above the TV.

Why did you say the centre speaker should be BELOW the tv ?

Don't put the speaker behind, it'll ruin the sound
Below the tv because the physical dangers to the tv, children etc of a heavy speaker above the tv, unless it is on a stout shelf, are serious

I've got the picture now
What you need is an additional side cabinet so that the speakers can go where the flowers are
Can the centre speaker fit into the shelving immediately above the tv? It really doesn't matter if it is slightly off centre

I think the side speakers can get mounted in the cabinet to the side (the doors can be trimmed or moved up).
Is it really not a problem if the center speaker is completely off center ?
