Wheels for TV stand with no wheels for mobility?

Hi.
Am getting a 36" JVC widescreen CRT TV soon. The stand that comes with it has no wheels on the bottom of the legs for some mobility. Would like this feature, as my current 29" Sony has them. I was wondering, is there any accessory I can buy to put at the bottom of the stand legs so I can move the TV easier, should I need to?

Hi,
I dont know what floor covering you have (carpet? laminate?) or what the base units feet are like, but for hard finished floors you could use the sliding aids such as glisdome pads (some hi-tec material, hard plastic sticky back pads, come in various sizes, usually round shape - help objects slide easier, could get on the net or in some DIY stores). If you really want wheels - you can buy these from DIY stores and catalogues like Maplin or CPC, but they may not be easy to fit to your stand depending on how its base is constructed, also for a 36" CRT's weight - you'll need pretty strong built wheels.

Do a Google for Flight Case manufacturers - you can get all sorts of wheels in all sorts of sizes and they'll take the weight of your TV and AV Stand with ease.

I have carpet. Will the pads u suggest work well on carpets, or they just for lamintate or shiny surfaces?

A couple of words of warning for you, to avoid

moments.

A 36" tv will weigh in the region of 80Kg, any wheels you fit will leave permanent flat spots/dents in your carpet. The weight of the tv is mostly in the tube so be very careful that the tv cannot topple over when moved, my Tosh 32 has a G-clamp at the back that you use to clamp the tv to the stand.

No, the plastic-like glisdome pads won't be any good on carpet - just for flat hard surfaces.

As Mylo points out the TV and stands weight will really push into the carpet if you use wheels. You could use castor cups, but im not sure how many types of these are available that will take the weight without cracking. Also, im not sure how your TV/AV stand sits on the floor surface - is it on legs like a table, or a flat base? Although wheels will press into the carpet, so will whatever its sits on at the moment (although perhaps to a lesser degree). and if the whole point of putting wheels on is to make it much more mobile, then castor cups will just negate this anyway. Whats more important to you - the mobility of the TV stand or the look of your carpet?

Unless you can get the hovercraft idea to work, in which case i'd like to see the video footage of you chasing it down the street when its finished

In all and complete seriousness the hovercraft technique is used to move VERY heavy maxhinery around factories.

Try searching for some and see if any come up
