Ikea oppli TV bench - Where!

http://www.ikea.co.uk/webapp/wcs/sto...ts=10104*10174

Hey folks.

I'm after one of these for my new setup, but i'm having a hell of a hard time getting one. As it's going to cost £80 for them to deliver it as I don't have any Ikea stores near me!

Are there any online retailers stocking this item? I really want to get one.

IKEA stuff isn't available anywhere else and they don't do online sales in the UK
You might find a better stand available if you put the £55+£80 delivery together.

If you really want one your best be would be to put a 'wanted ad' in the classifieds here. The Oppli is a forums favourite and there will probably be someone who'd moving or upgrading.

I actually moved on from an Oppli to another IKEA stand http://www.ikea.co.uk/webapp/wcs/sto...ts=10104*10174 recently. Mine is being reused by my daughter for her toys and as a play table - it's also got a big fade mark where my TV sat for 3 years :D.

These benches are long (1.5m) and heavy (30Kg) when they're flat packed and assembled you'll might be pushed to get a courier to take them. You'll need a decent sized hatchback with the seats down of a sturdy roof rack - ours (just) went in the back of a Megane flat packed but it was a push and I'm not sure we'd have managed it assembled!

Hey dudes, thanks for the replies and advice.

Common dude, i'm from Norwich. Where abouts are you going to get yours?

If it's at all possible, I'd pay for you to post mine, or maybe meet up somewhere to pick it up and i'll pay you and some extra?

Thanks alot dude, hope we can work something out.

My Wife got one of these the other week to replace the old hi fi unit and standard TV stand. We are using it without the castors though as it raised the RPTV up a bit too much with them on as they are quite big.

As Amc said they are big and heavy and we used my Wifes old Escort to get it home as there was no chance of getting it in my 156. Took about ten minutes to make though...the re wiring took a fair bit longer

I was looking at one of these online, i can see by the holes that you can remove the sheld so that something tall can go in it, which is good, however how wide (in inches) are the space on the left and how deep

Thanks

Can't tell you in inches - but it's wide enough for a full size (44cm?) seperate. My Yamaha DSP-A5 went in with a centimetre or so on either side. The overal unit is 50cm deep, the slots are 45cm deep.

I wanted to get a Yamaha 1400RVX amp, and then a 5cm tall DVD player on the shelf above. But, i'm pretty sure it won't fit. Any ideas? If not, i gguess i'd have to have the DVD player the other side of the amp.

Has anyone got some pictures of the front of this with gear inside for me to go by?

I had a similar problem with another piece of furniture I wanted to use for my AV setup. My solution was to set the shelf to a height/level I wanted and (carefully) drill my own holes for the support tabs. It has worked a treat and has allowed me to get my AV kit in the places where I want them rather than compromise.

That's what i'd probably do then, as long as I can fit them in.

Somethings I need to know...

How what's the height from top to bottom of the inside unit? And what is the height of the actual shelf.

Cheers lads.

Hi Scotty boy,
Seeing this post was a bit of a surprise as I just got myself one the other week to sit a plasma on....dropped on it purely by chance actually as we were there to find some storage for dvd's, the Oppli was exactly the kind of stand I had in my mind so picking it up for £55 is peanuts compared to some of the 'av stands' I haven't fitted the castors and it looks superb in my opinion, all my boxes fitting snugly inside and plenty of strength for the screen, I've got my centre speaker sitting between the feet of my screen mount and I'm very happy (the wife is pleased as well!!)
If nobody replies before I'll give you all the info you're after and (if I can) post a picture from the front to show you how it looks.
Well recommended for what it's worth from a newbie.
Cheers, Andrew

edited to add: Oh and forgot to say, if you were still interested I'd be prepared to get you one if still in stock at my local Notts store and organise getting it sent on to you.

There's a thread over here that may be of help....
Let's see your Oppli

My Oppli used to have a Toshiba 330 and a Yamaha DSP-A5 on the left hand side.#
There isn't a lot of room for either the amp or the DVD to vent heat so if either run warm you may be pushing your luck.

Drill the extra support holes before you assemble as it is a real pain trying to get the holes 'exactly' level when it's on it's side and with veneered partical board you only get one go.

Cheers boss, Andrew. If I can't sort one out, I might take you up on that! Someone said they'd give me there's but it's just a case of me doing alot of travelling to get it. Which kind of sucks.

I've done some maths, and my Amp is 171mm high. Possibly 180mm with the feet. The DVD player is 50mm (when it eventualy get's released!) The gap is 26 high. And i'd imagine the shelf will be 2cm.

Only leaves me a few mm for brething space for the amp, but it'll have some space on the side, it does run hot too. Damn yamaha.

Is it pretty easy to build your own holes in the side for a shelf?

Only thing I can think of... Is that I have a Tosh 36" CRT. Would that look ok on top of the av rack?

Cheers for all the feedback etc dudes. Appreciate it.

Well, i'm not sure if i'll get that AV rack now. I wanted to put my centre speaker in the middle, but it's 46cm, and i've been told the gap in the middle is 45cm.

****e sticks.

Hi,
Just measured mine and the internal sizes of the 3 openings are 445mm wide x 260mm high x 450mm deep. The table top is 1500mm wide x 500mm deep.
The shelves are 18mm thick.
Let me know if I can help any more
Andrew

sadly, this unit is too small for my amp my amp is Approx 450mm Wide, approx 216mm high and a whopping 483mm from fron to back

I have looked online and the only thing i can find that will fit something of these dimensions inclusing some space for air circulation is this alphason however the cheapest i can find this for is £238.

although i do have a friend who is a cabinet maker so i may ask him to do something, big with him is everything collapses then im stuffed, so i dont know if he is a good option, plus i think for a decent wood cabinet i wouldnt get much change out of £200 anyway, so i may as well go for the Alphason

does anyone know of a cabinet that will take an amp of the dimensions above (plus extra for air circulation)

Cheers boss. Looks like my centre speaker is 15mm too wide to fit into the middle shelf. That really sucks, I was looking forward to getting this bench. And it could of looked really good with all of my gear in. I don't really fancy having the center speaker on top of the TV. and the amp in the middle, then i'd have some extra shelves with nothing on. Though I suppose I could find something to put on there.

Hmmm, what to do now.

Have you tried Jali.co.uk ?

you can download an app, design a cabinet you like and get it made and delivered in about a week, all for around £130, it is MDF so would need painting, but this would leave you enough change to get an infa red sender so all the kit could be hidden.

Depends what look you like, personally I really don't like the alphason range you can always see the cables and unless all the kit is the same height, brand and colour I think it just looks messy, maybe I am just getting old

Doesn't it look good with no cables?

I took a look at Jali and gave them a call, they cannot guarantee that the unit will hold any particular weight, as my TV is about 46Kg and the AMP 22.5Kg i am not sure that MDF is up to the task.

I had a radiator cover made and they use 18mm MDF so it would have no problem holding 46kg, and I take it the amp would be on another shelf anyway?

I have built two cupboards/bookshelves either side of my fireplace, a bookself on each cupboard. They came from Jali and I can say you won't have a problem with the build supporting your weight.
The cupboards are 140cm and 130cm wide, 50cm deep and 100 cm high - on top of them are bookshelves 35 and 45cm deep and 150cm tall - filled with books.
The 4 packages from Jali weighed in at over 200Kg so the unladden weight of the bookshelves is around 50-60Kg. I dread to think what the books weigh - at least another 50Kg? but the cupboards are showing no signs of strain.
They are very sturdily constructed - not on a par with particle board from IKEA etc.

I actually worked out a TV/AV cupboard design and asked Jali some questions about load bearing, door widths and cutting cable access. They were very helpful and told me with minimum widths to get a 45cm component in and out.
