Help with the squash ball thing!!

Hi everyone,

I currently have my Denon 2900 and Yamaha RX-V730RDS sat on a very wobbly £20 stand from Argos. I don't want to spend much money on a stand as a have read that they don't make much difference to the sound, so I decided to take the wheels of my existing stand (which has made it much less wobbly) and try the squash ball thing.

I have cut my balls in half as best I can (quite a painful task ) and put them under my kit with the cut half down. I have placed one in each corner but both pieces of kit have feet on so I have put the balls under the feet. Anyway, doing this seems to make the kit much more wobbly again? Can anyone tell me if I have done this correctly? Or if anyone has had the same experience (ie wobbly kit)? Also, is it really such a good idea (does it really improve the sound)?

Unfortunately, I put some large rug underlay down (I have a wooden floor) at the same time as the squash balls and although I have had a great improvement in the sound (it is much tighter and seems to have more life), I don't know whether this has come from the underlay or the squash balls.

Any help/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
incywincy

Try a big blob of blu-tack under the feet of your kit instead for a cheap and cheerful solution. Does the same job as the squash balls AFAIK and probably costs less than half a dozen squash balls!

Maybe try using 3 halves - but not under the exisiting feet (maybe could even remove them).

Put 2 at the front (left and right) and one at the rear in the middle.

3 halves is best.... as for it feeling wobbly..... well it will be! But it if you jump up and down on the floor, then the components on squach balls will move much less than were they without the balls....

Half footballs might work
My equipment is on a wooden shelf (ie. large plank) which is resting on the squash balls.

Try spikes/blutack for the stand, but half a squash ball under each component "foot" (ie 2 full balls cut in half per component).

try using a 12" innertube that is inflated so that each component is sitting just under 1cm above the respective shelf (i.e. the inner tube should be too inflated!) - you will probably need to inflate / deflate each tube to hear the right sound..!

I use them for my system - cd player, dvd player and both amps...
