Finally - A Long Solid Oak Cabinet

All - just posting this as have been looking for a long and low solid Oak cabinet for the lounge for some time now.

Reason it's proved problematic is like many I have a load of stuff to go in it including the fairly hefty Onkyo 606.

SO after much searching and looking at unsuitable wooden boxes I finally happened across the Pinetum company while driving around Warminster - which set me looking for their website and local suppliers.

They make a range of hardwood furniture and while not cheap it avoids the need for me to have to design my own, have it made etc etc etc.

So the details of the cabinet I've ordered are the Quercus CQEV680 1.8 long 2 door TV Unit.
Dimensions = 1870mm wide x 588mm high x 590 depth

I had to ring and find local dealers since their postcode service wasn't working when I tried, and I needed to find out the internal dimensions anyway.

My local supplier quoted £945 including VAT and free delivery to North Dorset - I think I spoke to Christian.

Approximate Dimensions of space behind doors = 500mm wide x 450mm deep.

I'm advised that delivery will be 3-4 weeks as all pieces are made to order.

Various finishes are available but I've gone for Natural Oiled Oak with no metal feet and Oak handles.

I will obviously take some pics when it arrives but it should accommodate the Onkyo.

Here's hoping everything fits...

Hi,

That looks really smart, make sure they create adequate ventilation for your AV equipment, you don't want a £945 cabinet to warp.

Please post some pics when it arrives I would possibly be interested in selling these.

Cheers

Will do - I'm not sure about cooling inside the cabinet but will have to go at it with a hole-cutter if not.

Thinking of maybe putting amp and Sky HD in the centre section - but will definitely need cooling for the xbox etc.

Will maybe look at wireless remote for the kit behind the doors.

I should have only 2 weeks to go before delivery.

You won't be disapointed in the quality of their furniture, I've bought a number of pieces from the Como range in the same natural oak finish and it is very well built.

Great - can't wait to get all these nasty cables hidden that have been collecting dust for ages.

So it's arrived - and I've already cut two 120mm holes in the cupboard sections and installed some quiet fans.

Not finished the installation (note wires ready to be stuck in D-Line trunking) but am very pleased with the finish of the cabinet.

The sense of scale can be seen by looking at the xbox 360 on the left or the Onkyo 606 in the middle section - but if anyone needs a photo with a ruler in the cupboard sections am happy to take some more.

Just need my Onkyo to start showing the OSD and responding to the Wii component again and I'll be happy - but that's another thread...

Nice work on the cabinet - looks like they did a great job. Since your oak cabinet has solid doors, I assume you've got some kind of IR - RF converter, or an RF all-in-one remote? If so do you mind sharing the details?

Re - RF remotes, at the moment the idea is to put the xbox and wii in the left hand section (both of which can be powered on with the doors closed.

Will need a solution for the WDTV and the Disc player though - maybe Harmony 900 or maybe mx450 or mx880.

Amps HDMI board has failed so things on hold until it returns from Genserve in Swindon next week - but 120mm cooling fans have been installed and fitted in the cupboards together with auto temp controlled fan controller.
