Do ikea do the above in a 1m long version. im sure i have seen this by them or some other company. In ikea i can only find the 1.5m one.
Help will be much appreciated.

No, only the 1.5m one, modifiable (see other thread) to improve height!
I did it by butchering a £7.99 coffee table, others have used alternative legs, have a gander at the post, here's my pic, top is 200mm above the base (150 is standard) to fit AV amp
go for it, great value for money, and easy (and fun!) to "hack"

The probs with straughtforward double-up are:
1. shelves only veneered on top, and the joins are VERY different top and bottom, so would need a plan b to stack them
2. Simply doubling up doesn't sort my main issue which was height for an av receiver ( most >150mm in height )
3. The height of a doubled-up unit this big would IMHO make it monstrous, mine is pretty big in an 8m x 6.5m room
I can get a piccie of my prototype which used the coffee table from which I got the legs as a separate top-shelf which nicely enclosed my sky box and the centre speaker stood on it, I thought great, mrs g veto'd it due to height :-( !

Hi, just ordered a TV so I need a stand/bench asap! I like the look of the "lacks" (not to mention the price ) but as per OP its too long, is it possible to "cut it down" to just over 1m, but retain the finish on the edge ?

yes it's possible, but the top is a frame with a base and lid and in the middle is basically hollow.
in order to cut down the width you'd have to place a piece of wood inside the top and then get some matching veneer (iron on stuff is v cheap, and there is a good match with most walnut veneers) to put on the sides.
personally I'd keep it that length, it gives the AV receiver and console some much-needed ventilation space, but then my missus did say it was too big when it first arrived... she's delighted with it now mind you!

How about four Lack coffee tables with legs cut down to 20cm (ie in half) and stacked two high? total cost £32, and you can keep them separate or place them together. You could even bond the edges of the tops together before attaching the legs so only 3 sets of legs used (one middle set and one at each end) to clean up the look a little
I admit, this is a bit Heath Robinson , but worth a thought as an alternative to shelling out £100s?!

that would be

The problem is the height as its in my room , so at the moment i have them on top of eachother, looks ok, height is good. I have a shelve at the top for consoles a silly little one in the middle from stacking them directly on top and one shelve at the bottom not big enough for a av amp.
Im thinking of taking one of the long shelves out and making two larger legs ( well the ones that go right across) which will then give me my height and leave me with just two shelves but will be a lot bigger.
