Question Which cheap stand for 40 inch tv?

Trying to find my perfect stand; and although quite picky, I'd be surprised if some of my requirements were not normal.

First off its got to house: 17.5cm high amp, alongside a PS3. Above to be a standard width CD player (tall), and alongside a dvd-player and also a sat box. Secondly, it then houses a 42 plasma. But assuming I fit two kit items per shelf, it means the stand need to have a shelf width of 900mm, so plenty wide enough for the 42 tv.

So, I've established Width requirement of 900mm shelf space; overall width dont care. Depth, lets say 450mm or so.

Height needs to be two shelves, the bottom being at least 18cm; top shelf at least 17cm; thats 350mm, plus thickness of base/middle/top shelves, so say its going to be 380mm total height minimum. So many stands are 500mm tall, and its stupidly high; Im sure my sofa is quite normal, Im long in the body, and yet whilst sat down, I know 500mm will put the middle of the TV screen above my eye line. Summary - 400mm high would be ideal. This seems impossible to find.

What else? This is now personal preference, and it can be either wood or black glass (but not silver). Whats caught my eye so far?

- Alphason FW1100 - I like the look and it fits my kit. Unsure what height is. And overall its over my budget.
- Alphason HES42/3-B - nice, but over my budget
- Standlands black glass number. Within budget, but too high at 500mm.
- Iconic UKGL2113, at 450mm claimed, but over budget.
- Techlink PTV1DWCG - not sure and possibly high and pricey for what it is.
- a UKWD1060, nice but unsure of height and over budget at £170.

Can anyone suggest anything better? I've not seen anything in my criteria on ebay; nor any cheapo shops. Surely these dimensions are normal; I dont get why there are so many 500mm high ones, and a few at 800 wide; odd.

Re: Which cheap stand for 40 inch tv?

Hi,

The reason why most have a height of 500mm is because of the gap between the floor and the base shelf, we do have an Alphason TV Cabinet available which is 455mm in height and excellent value, I can provide you excellent prices on many stands which meet your specification apart from the height also-

GT4 TV Stand
Vivanco Brisa 1000 (I can help if this model is over your budget)
Stil Stuk 1402

Hope this helps you, I think the Alphason cabinet is particularly good value for money as enclosed cabinets tend to be alot more expensive.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks Paul. Just to reitterate, Im looking to avoid silver, that includes legs and all; also it'll exclude chrome too; just want black or dark wood.

See what you mean about heights getting over 400mm, due to the last 100mm being leg/foot. Not sure I appreciate these long legs; as the true height should not exceed ideal viewing - this is often defined as the top third of the screen being inline with your level of sight. As said, 400mm is ideal. Now I'd never expect you to condone this, but I see the black stand you show is self assembly, and that I've heard some people leave the feet off; I presume those stands come flat pack?

The Alphason I'd be keen on, but I go against teh grain. One requirement I left out is for the shelves to be open air - front and back, to allow good cooling to my kit. Hence the Atacama Equinox is so good for hi-fi.

I'll look at your page to see if theres any other Alphason for sale. The alphason seems a sturdy fella, taking upto 50kg; even though i know my tv is 30kg - it just means some of the thinner stands could not take much else.

I'd gladly take brunt off the missus (due to looks) and get the AVC if it were only 900 wide internally. Shame.

I could cry; the Optimum would've almost done the job if it were 90mm wider. I would happily take something like this and remove the middle shelf and stack my units off the floor (wood floor). Hmm, the 1100 doesnt come cheaper, shame.

Sorry, that kind of edits the requirement of shleves - one bottom shelf is fine, if the distance to the top is about 370mm to 400mm.

Hi,

Do you like the elite core TV stand? I can't say anymore without breaking rule 7.

This any good http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premier-AV-H...3821599&sr=8-1 space between top an middle shelf is 8 inches and same middle to bottom, I have one myself. Nice bit of kit for the price. Looks more than the asking price, onkyo 606 fits nicely with a reasonable gap and no overheating.

Re: Which cheap stand for 40 inch tv?

Good find and good review thanks. I almost gave up on stuff like that, as most of them are 50cm tall; this is a 48cm, so closer to my desired 45cm.
