Overheating - Poor air flow

I've just moved house and our previous TV bench doesn't fit in so I picked on of these up second hand:

IKEA | TV solutions | TV solutions for tube TVs up to 25'' | LEKSVIK | TV bench

Seemed perfect as it meant I could move the glass shelf out of the living room to the music room. The kit that's in it is:

Onkyo receiver
Sky box
PS3
Xbox 360
PS2

So got it all fitted in last night and started watching a DVD. I could hear the PS3's fan was louder than normal and opened the doors to find that there was a lot of heat being generated from both receiver and PS3. It's a bad design because with the doors shut there is only the tiny little cord hole for the air to escape. It's also didn't help that it was so bloody hot yesterday.

Anyway, just wondering if people had any good ideas on some home DIY to get the air circulating.

The receiver is currently on the bottom shelf and the PS3 on the top. I'm going to move the receiver to the top and keep the PS3 there too, as these will the culprits for heat and they are used the most of all.

The backboard is fibreboard so I'm going to cut a couple of inches off the top to let the air pass out of the top of the stand. Sound like a good idea.

Worst case scenario is either smash the glass out of the doors or take the doors off completely, both of which I'm not too keen about.

I'll give it a test tonight and see how it goes. Might be in the market for a new stand though.

Re: Overheating - Poor air flow

Why not just completely remove the back of it?

Re: Overheating - Poor air flow

Yeah, thinking about it, it will probably be better and easier than cutting it. I'll try it tonight and see if that helps.

Will this affect the rigidity of the cabinet? The back often plays a significant role here.
