Recommendations for a stand
I'm looking for a nice looking black stand with 4 glass shelves. The bottom shelf will need to accomodate a 5 channel rotel amp,and obviously the weight of one. I'm not looking to pay stupid money for one that 'will improve the sound of the equipment' just one that is designed to do what it was intended, i.e. be a shelf.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something suitable here ...
Plasma & LCD TV Stands and Cabinets, Hifi & Speaker Stands at Stand and Deliver
But it does rather depend on what you consider to be 'stupid money ' since 'a nice looking black stand with 4 glass shelves. ' is likely to cost you well in excess of £100.
This might do ..

Re: Recommendations for a stand
Thanks for the links. I'll have a look in more detail later but that last one looks ideal.
By stupid money I was thinking in excess of £200.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
Hi
You didn't specify what size the TV is to suit the stand your looking for but see the website link below for a range that should be suitable.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
On second thoughts that Jual one doesn't look very solid.
This sort of thing is ideal
SoundStyle XS100.ONYX Hifi Stand - Buy from Digital Direct
but I don't see where they're justifying 270 quid for a couple of glass shelves.
Stands UK, it is for hi-fi only. I do not need a stand for the telelvision.

Well it's more than a couple of shelves ... but it doesn't look to be all that robust for the money either does it?
You don't actually have to put a TV on the stand but I do see what you mean.
I have an Optimum stand that supports both my Pioneer 608D Plasma TV and various bits of equipment on its smoked glass shelves. Optimum Stands come in a variety of sizes and finishes .. mine has satin black tubular supports and I suspect that this, following, stand can be specified in that finish and its not too far over your £200 price limit ..... sale price £273 with free postage ...
Optimum OPT-5500B - Optimum Prelude Range - Optimum Stands - Stand and Deliver
Very robust and easy to assemble if it's at all like my stand.
Arnold.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
I looked at this yesterday Arnold and did a google search to find it with black satin legs but to no avail. Would it be possible for you to take a good quality photo of yours to see the colour? Try to get an accurate reproduction if you can without using a flash?
I'm wondering though if the power amp is going to fit on that bottom shelf. Hmmmm.

I'm sorry but .. Horror of Horrors ! ... I don't have any kind of digital camera leave alone one capable of taking a good quality pic.
I'd be surprised if you can't specify Black in your order and that page does give the physical size of the beastie But .. your best bet would be to phone Stand and Deliver and ask for their advice. I always found Stand and Deliver helpful when I phoned them for advice on load bearing of the Optimum stand when the on line catalog gave a maximum size for the TV that was plainly wrong. Mind you I did sweat a bit until it was confirmed that the table stand of my 608D would fit neatly between the top caps that fasten the table top of the stand in place and that confirmation came only when my TV dealers installers lowered the TV into place.
I did get an Optimum Catalog directly from Optimum and that was extremely useful. Let's see now where did I put the manufacturers web address? Ah, yes, there it is and still the same sort of range thought they do appeared to have freshened up their products names and titles here and there. I'll point you to the page that shows the range of legs in the modular system...
Optimum 2000 International - tv, hi-fi, audio, visual, stand, modular, units
Note ...
" The Optimum Modular stands come pre-configured with supporting rod lengths, but the beauty of this range is that the these length can be changed at the time of ordering at no extra cost - total flexibility. The rods are available in the following lengths
• 80mm 200mm 400mm
•120mm 230mm 500mm
•150mm 250mm 600mm
•170mm 320mm "
If you aren't in a tearing hurry you could get an Opimimum Catalog in good old fashioned paper and have it ready to hand when you phone Stand And Deliver.
I seem to recall that Stand and Deliver do one of those 'will not be beaten on price ' claims and so it may be worth your while to do a trawl of the web for rival suppliers after you have decided what you want.
Arnold.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
I have a similar problem, am trying to find a rack for a sensible price to house a Onkyo875 (massive) and a media center that is just as big + other kit
This is tempting me personally although the mediacenter would have to go top shelf..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Designer-alu-g...1|293:1|294:30
For £95 it may well be worth alook

There does exist the possibility that this is a re-badged Optimum 2000 system and thus it would be worth asking a U.K. dealer in Optimum what their Best Price is ?
A British Dealer would be rather easier to call to account than would be a dealer from Over There on The Continent.... where they are Mere Poor Benighted Foreigners who Know No Better.
Just My Opinion of course.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
Yes it does look rather like the Optimum range (no bad thing), how ever @ £113 by my reckoning its under half if not a third of the price similar items from Stand and deliver (Optimums platinum reseller in the UK)
I'd rather buy in the UK personally but hardly think its chancing it to purchase via paypal / ebay from a german seller who has 99% good feedback with over 7000 items sold. Horses for courses I guess.

AGREED. But whilst I haven't done a direct comparison .. one third of the UK dealers price ?
Not that I doubt the merits of the German e bay dealer but if OP can spare the time to Phone Stand and Deliver after haven done a little Internet Browsing then who knows what he might be offered?

A fair point, I may phone them myself on Monday, there is certainly no harm in asking!
Actaully further digging finds this
Jual JF005 - Jual Stands - Stand and Deliver
@ £110 its a bargain (and proves your point), I thought it was the same stand for a minute but sadly its not deep enough to hold the Onk.. 40cm the other is 52cm.

Re: Recommendations for a stand
Just a quick follow up to this thread...
I emailed stand and deliver to see if they could help me out and never heard back so ended up taking a punt on the german ebay firm..
Wasn't overly impressed that it took them 6 days to despatch the stand but otherwise the service and product is excellent. Bit of a bonus for me also was the fact that the top shelf gap is actually bigger than the diagram states (16 - 17cm rather than 15cm as stated) so it fits my full size atx media center (after I took the feet off) so all in all very happy with the purchase.
Anyway if anyone else is looking for a stand to house a large onkyo amp and some other kit without paying silly money it is definitely worth a look.
Hope it helps someone... suls
